This was an incredibly fun 15 minutes of my life.

I did it in between hanging laundry and working on a new welcome email sequence.

I didn't "make" anything in particular.

But it instantly turned on my creative brain, and I felt SO much more energized afterward than if I'd used those same minutes to scroll ☺️

If you know engaging in creativity makes you feel better but you need a little more support and accountability in making it part of your routine, the Room for Calm: Creative Self-Care System is designed to help — no matter your creative interests!

Ever have that feeling where you're desperately craving creative calm, but the prospect of actually working on a project is...just a little too much for the moment? 🥴

Here are 5 ways I give myself the benefit of a creative reset without having to be in project mode 😌 Make sure to tell me what I missed!

1️⃣ Wind a ball of yarn. The repetitive motion and tactile experience are very calming to your brain 🧶

2️⃣ Organize your fabric stash. Quilting fabrics, cross stitch fabrics, scrap fabrics...doesn't matter what kind, but the focus of sorting and the satisfaction of organizing will tune out everything else 🧵

3️⃣ Swatch a set of markers, gel pens, or colored pencils. You get the soothing relief of coloring without any of the sneaky stress that comes with picking colors and wanting your result to look good 🖍️

4️⃣ Put some embroidery thread onto bobbins or floss drops. The mood reset mechanism here is very similar to winding a ball of yarn — but if you're prone to tangles, maybe don't use this one for stress relief 😆

5️⃣ Hole punch some journal pages. Sometimes writing/recording feels like a little more than your tired brain can manage, but you can enjoy the satisfying "thwack" of the hole punch and make sitting down next time a little easier by preparing a set of pages in your 3-ring journal 📒

What did I miss? Share your favorite not-quite-crafting activities in the comments! 💬

And be sure to follow for more tips to inspire your daily dose of creativity 💖

This is a little moment of peace and presence I look forward to every day ☺️

I fill out my time tracker and creative calendar daily, and update my project trackers and self-care journal weekly 🗓️

I have also personalized my setup by swapping out the general WIP wheel tracker for my cross stitch-specific one, since that's an "always on" craft for me 🥰 I use the sticky-style tracker for other long-term crafty projects!

The most mind-blowing thing about creativity is that when practiced regularly, it measurably contributes to better health and longevity right alongside exercise, sleep, and good nutrition. 🤯

And doing creative things is FUN, so it seems like it would be an easy "yes" to put into your daily routine, right??

Well... that's where it's not so simple.

The majority of you will say, "I would love to, but I just don't have time" (and boy do I relate to that feeling 😅). But that same majority will find that when you DO have time, you're often reaching for your phone for a little mindless scrolling instead...

I relate so strongly to this experience — and I spent so long changing my habits myself — that I created a whole system to address this exact problem of loving creative hobbies and knowing they're good for you, but never feeling like you have the time to enjoy them.

The✨ Room for Calm: Creative Self-Care System✨ is a printable journal and tracker bundle with detailed guidance that helps you work mindful creativity into your routine in a way that works just right for you — no matter what hobbies you enjoy or how many free minutes you have in your day.

And if you feel all in on swapping scrolling for hands-on creativity but aren't sure *what to actually do to start*, then 🌿Crossing Into Calm🌿 is the perfect companion! It's a 12-week ritual reset that lands in your inbox every Friday that guides you through a reflective journaling prompt that brings you to the present, and a meditative drawing exercise with step-by-step instructions.

You can check out both offerings in the links in my bio — Download a free sample of the Creative Self-Care System, and pair the full system with Crossing Into Calm for a discounted bundle that'll help you kick-start a new creative self-care habit today 💖

I was incredibly bummed to open up this origami sculpture kit and not find any written instructions 😩 I know videos can be an incredibly effective learning/teaching tool, and I certainly appreciate them as an option when I'm trying something totally new on my own — but no analog version at all??

I've chosen not to pick up this project so many times (even when I'm in the mood for that craft) because I simply don't want to be on a device at that moment. Period.

Would you be fine with video instructions only for a craft kit? Prefer it, even? I have to know if I'm the only one to feel this way...(i.e. totally indignant 😂)

It's been a long journey but here's the truth — my stitching life got SO much better when I stopped doing this one (very deeply ingrained) thing:

😱 Agonizing over the 'how' 😱

I used to let myself get totally paralyzed over my process

🌀 which section or color to stitch next

🌀 what exact order to make my stitches in

🌀 whether to carry or start a new thread

🌀 trying to cut the exact right length of thread

The list goes on and on...

Before I knew it, 30 minutes of preciously carved-out stitching time would be over, and I'd hardly put anything into my project at all. It felt like such a waste. 😞

I decided I HAD to make a change. I needed my self-care stitching time to actually involve...more stitching 🙃

So I switched from a mindset of 'process' to one of 'progress' 💡

Instead of worrying so much about the 'how', I committed to putting one proverbial foot in front of the other.

❌ No worries about thread waste
❌ No focus on efficiency or perfect logic.

It didn't change in a day, and I still have to actively put myself into this mindset each time I sit down. Sometimes, I still get 'got' by my analytical mind that craves perfection in the process.

But on the whole, the mental health benefits I feel after a stitching session have skyrocketed – and I get a lot more done on all my WIPs, too!

If you are on a journey of figuring out how creative self-care can really work for you, you're in the right place. I've been on this path of discovery for years, and I'm sharing everything I've learned!

Follow for inspiration, tips, and support along the way. Together, we can build a healthy habit of practicing creative self-care daily 💖

You *know* creativity makes you feel good, but you keep getting stuck on, "what do I actually DO??" 🤦‍♀️

I hear this constantly in my work, and the good news is, it's not a "you problem" at all — it's decision fatigue.

You spend all day every day making big and small decisions in the context of work, home, and family, and your brain is TIRED of choosing. So when a decision comes up about how to specifically spend your precious bit of me-time you've carved out for creativity, you end up choosing...nothing.

With Crossing Into Calm, you simply show up with your intention to create, and the rest is taken care of. 🪄

This 12-week ritual reset is your no-decisions-needed sanctuary that helps you actually build the creative self-care habit you've been meaning to for so long.

Picture sitting down once a week with a notebook, pen and headphones, and being handed a playlist to set the mood, a short, grounding journaling prompt, and a guided meditative drawing exercise that helps you create something beautiful you never would have thought of on your own. 💖

Every drawing exercise is completely beginner-friendly, and comes with variations and foundational concepts that you can remix and create with endlessly long after the 12-week experience has ended.

The best part? You don't need any supplies other than what you already have at home — no excuses. 😉

If you're craving creativity but you're out of ideas and energy to plan it, Crossing Into Calm is exactly what you need. 🌟

If you are one of my people who REALLY wants to make more space for creative activities but has a hard time making it happen... This is for you 💕

Part habit tracker, part project organizer, part self-care ritual, the ✨Room for Calm: Creative Self-Care System✨ is a journal and tracker bundle that helps you swap mindless screen time for meaningful creative time, so you can spend more time on your hobbies AND feel much better in your brain and body thanks to the powerful wellness benefits of regular creative practice.

It's not just a set of printable pages that make a pretty journal (although you will love the way it comes together 😍) — the Creative Self-Care System comes with a detailed guide for how to actually *use* the 6-part system to change your habits over time so that reaching for a project becomes just as easy and natural as picking up your phone.

Because our desire to change our habits is one thing, but actually executing is the hardest part, right?? I know, because I've been there — and it's something I still actively work on every day. 😅

But I've learned a LOT about how to effectively ingrain creativity as a soothing daily practice over the last few years, and the effect on my mental health has been profound. I want to share that with as many people as possible, in as simple a way as I can.

Now, posting this as a sneak peek feels a little funny because this has already gone out to Crossing Into Calm participants as a bonus, and it's even available on the website right now if you're saying, "I need this TODAY!" (I guarantee you won't be mad at the $10 you spent).

But I'm doing an official launch to celebrate this new addition to the Room for Calm world next week, and it involves more than just a one-time-only discount on the Creative Self-Care System (although it's that, too)🎈🎉

So if this is speaking to you, here's what you should do right now: head to the link in my bio and sign up for emails so you don't miss the launch next week. The special launch deal will land right in your inbox, AND you'll get a little bonus in the shop when you subscribe 💌 Don't forget to hit the confirmation link in your email!
