We are thinking of our friends and community in Arcata today.

Several folks have asked how to help. While PIFH has not mobilized a response at this time, we want to share the opportunities to donate that have come up thus far. Please join us in Paying It Forward.

Our hearts are broken for the unfathomable loss experienced across the plaza from us today.

Our Arcata (and the larger Humboldt) community will be reeling from these sudden absences, these spaces that so many have known, nurtured, loved and worked in for decades, some, much more recently but all resulting in such devastating loss.

These are our friends and fellow small business owners and artists, whose hard earned dreams, art and livelihoods are gone, just like that, as well as a good number of people who no longer have their homes or properties.

There are never really words at times like these, but we want them to know that their community is here for them and willing to help rebuild when the time is right.

And a huge appreciation for all the crews that battled high winds, and helped prevent the fire from spending any further than it did. It’s hard to imagine it being any worse, but it certainly could have been.

No lives were hurt in the process, and that is something to be truly thankful for.

Endless thanks for being such indelible parts of so many lives, past, present and future!!

Another Fall, another Pastels on the Plaza, and another huge thank you to Julio Cesar Torres for making yet another beautiful piece, helping raise funds for North Coast Children’s Services and spreading the all important message of peace, dignity, love, hope, and freedom for Palestine, and all people.

32 years ago on November 27, 1992, we opened All Under Heaven at 228 F St in Old Town, Eureka. At that point, 100% of everything in the store was personally sourced from remote areas of China from artisans we knew (we lived in Beijing from 1980-1989). Throughout the years, All Under Heaven has seen many changes, including 3 different locations and eventually extending our inventory to include imports from other countries and items from local artists as well.
These photos from our first day in our initial Eureka location show how minimalist it was in the early days, especially in contrast to today’s store. Each handpicked item was a thing of handcrafted beauty, rich in diverse culture and continued history.
Best of all, throughout these past 32 years, have been all the precious people, both local and abroad, that we’ve been so fortunate to connect with and work alongside.
With much gratitude, thank you to all who have helped us continue to be here so many years later.
