Yesterday was Ello's 1st birthday! Maybe it's strange to discuss a business' birthday, but I feel like starting a business is honestly a bit like raising a child, so I'm gonna celebrate! π₯³
A lot of people think that starting a business is easy because it means you escape working for a boss who micromanages you or never gives you time off. So when you start a business...surprise, now you're working for yourself...and you're one tough boss to work for. 15 hour shifts, no PTO, and you come home covered in mud and flower gunk. What do you get for your hard work? Yep...still a pizza party. (But hey, at least this pizza party has wine)
But, according to all of my friends raising actual children, hard times sort themselves out for one reason: the LOVE. And I feel that deeply when I look at my first year in business. π€
The 15 hour shifts are worth it for the love of that moment I walk my bride to the aisle. The final walk she'll take before happily ever after. I cry every. single. time.
The lack of PTO is worth it for the love of the fact that I am a part of someone's love story. Something I will NEVER forget as a wedding vendor.
The mud and gunk are worth it for the love of the art I create. Art that will be in my couples' pictures for the rest of their lives. My bouquets preserved and hung on their walls forever. That is one of the most humbling feelings I've ever experienced.
So happy birthday, Ello. I can definitely say that the last year is proof that we do it for the love. Cheers to year 2!π·π
