In honor of Woman’s History Month, we recognize the legendary Dr. Alice White Bussey! In 1962, the floral industry in Atlanta changed forever.
Dr. Bussey, alongside her late husband, James L. Bussey II, broke barriers to open the city’s first Black-owned FTD floral shop.
In 1985, Dr. Bussey became the first woman elected as president of the Atlanta Business League. Serving on several boards, including the board of The International Florists Association (IFA), Dr Bussey paved the way for many of us in the floral industry. Her presence in the floral circles was always warm and kind, greeting us “newbies” with a smile and nod of encouragement. She was a trailblazer in every sense of the word. We honor her today as her legacy continues to bloom.
We heard that her favorite color was orange…presenting few blooms we hope she would love in her honor.
