HER Story for HER Glory 🙌🏾💞…

Ladies, it’s our month & time to shine…I know I’m late, but I wanted to wish you a HAPPY BELATED INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY and HAPPY WOMEN’S HER-STORY MONTH! 💐

As I was creating this video highlighting my ARTwork through the years, I became filled with joy. I’m so proud of myself for making space in my life to be a creative, while still balancing all the many roles of womanhood. Being a woman isn’t easy (GOD knows it isn’t 😩), but I wouldn’t choose to be anything else. Being a woman is a superpower. 🦸🏾‍♀️💕

I would like to thank every WOMAN who has supported me, mentored me, encouraged me, helped me, and loved me. It's WOMEN like you who pave the way for WOMEN like me. And for that, I am grateful beyond measure. 🙏🏾💕

Y’all 😩… It took me a minute to pick Fitness Girlie 2.0 back up again for completion. I was feeling under the weather, but I’m feeling better now. 🙌🏾 It’s time to wrap this cutie up…Finally! 😅👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

The last post featured the background base layer of Koi Watercolors. Today, I will be covering the flower line art details using my white Gelly Roll pens.

The flower line artwork is freehand without any prior sketching. I just kind of go with the flow and wherever my hands take me. It really is a fluid process. ✍🏾🧘🏾‍♀️💕

I’ve said a lot about Fitness Girlie 2.0, but I want to know what you think.

Alright Y’all! The background of the Fitness Girlie 2.0 illustration has finally been laid. 🧘🏾‍♀️💕 Whoot-Whoot! 🙌🏾

The Background Details 🧑🏾‍🎨🎨:
I used the Sakura of America Koi Watercolors brush markers to outline my Fitness Girlie, then I used water and my Princeton Artist Brush brushes to lay the background. Occasionally, I would dip into the palette to either intensify the color (adding a deeper green) or mute it by adding a hint of white. And if the background color got too dark for me, I used a paper towel to lift some of the color or sheered it out with more water.

Let me just say I’m truly impressed with how Sakura Koi Watercolors are performing with this piece. I can definitely see growth in this illustration versus my first attempt. 🤗💗

After the background completely dries, the flower line ART is up next to finish this beauty off. 💐🥰

I’m thinking about either doing a live session to capture the flower line ART. We’ll see…I’ve been under the weather so it will depend on how I feel.😩🤞🏾

It's the weekend BABY!!!!!!! 🙌🏾

One thing that is for sure and two things that are certain is that we will PROGRESS FORWARD! ⏩️

Here's another update on my Fitness Girlie redo. 👇🏾

I'm so impressed with how much progress I've made from the original Fitness Girlie 1.0 vs Fitness Girlie 2.0. My application has been so much smoother and a lot more fluid. It's almost as if I am in a much more relaxed state this second time around. 🧘🏾‍♀️💕 x 👩🏾‍🎨🎨 = 🫶🏾

Highlights thus far...
One thing that I didn't mention was instead of me taping my watercolor paper to my desk, I taped it to a cardboard backing. This allows the paper to move with me, opposed to me moving with the paper. I really like this approach so much better. It reminds me of how I illustrate with my alcohol markers. I think moving forward, I'll be doing the same. 🌟

Takeaways at this point...
Practice, Practice, Practice! It really does make a difference. ✍🏾

Hey my happy heARTs, 👋🏾

I’m back with an update on Fitness Girlie. 🧘🏾‍♀️💕

Highlights thus far...
• Making Progress: I’m making good progress as I take on recreating Fitness Girlie. Though I’m taking my time this go round, I can already see a great deal of progress, which I’m super excited about! 🤗🥰

• Same-Same: I’m using the same paint / colors ( Koi Watercolors), same brushes (; Neptune brushes, Aqua Elite, and Velvetouch), and the same paper ( watercolor). I intentionally didn’t switch anything up because I wanted to make a true comparison from Version 1 vs. Version 2. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏽

• Different Results: Though I’m using the same mediums and materials, the results are quite different. Version 2 seems to have a much smoother and fluid application in comparison to my first attempt. 🤯

Takeaways at this point...
The ART of mistakes is that you should embrace them, work through them, and learn from them. Allow yourself to make mistakes...access if the mistakes are worth keeping and if not, it’s completely okay to start over. I call this Failing Forward. 🙌🏾

Like Aaliyah said, “And if at first you don’t succeed, then dust yourself off and try again. You can dust it off and try again, try again.” 💞💞💞

t’s , Whoot-Whoot! 🙌🏾

It’s the day I normally share something about myself. Well, today I’m sharing that I’m a perfectionist and I don’t like it. 😩 Being a perfectionist is a gift and a curse. On one hand, it’s good because you’re continuosly striving to level up...but on the other hand, it’s bad because it can slow you down & could potentially limit progress altogether. 🥴

As I previously mentioned, “Fitness Girlie” was the first piece I created coming off of my “social media break” and revisiting the world of watercolors. I was trying to capture the essence of “light vs. dark”. Well right before I was about to take my final video of the progress I had made, I had this bright idea to adjust her nose. What a major mistake that was...I ended up messing up the entire face.🙇🏾‍♀️🙆🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

Normally after I create my ART, I scan my pieces so I can use them digitally. Unfortunately due to me ruining “Fitness Girlie”, I was unable to scan her so I made the decision to recreate her. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Now at this point, one would ask:
• Why are you backwards hustling?
• Wouldn’t this be considered wasted effort, since you’ve already done your submission?
• Is it really worth it Girl?
• Shouldn’t you just move on, Sis?
..BUT, the perfectionist in me was screaming, you can do this and you have the opportunity to do it even better by learning from your mistakes. 🙋🏾‍♀️

So here we are...learning & growing one paint stroke at a time. 👩🏾‍🎨🎨

Well, I can’t wait to tell the tale of this illustration. 🙇🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

"Fitness Girlie" was the first piece I created coming off of my "social media break" and revisiting the world of watercolors. If you've been following my journey, you probably know that the watercolor medium is still relatively new to me.

Even though I have received many compliments on this piece 🫶🏾...a lot of mistakes were made. 🙆🏾‍♀️

I can't wait to share my reflective moments of "How it started" vs "How it's going". The details might even shock you. 🤷🏾‍♀️
