Every time I return to South Africa, I’m reminded of where my sense of design began — in the light, the landscapes, and the way things are made with such honesty here.
There’s a rhythm to it — a deep appreciation for material, proportion, and craftsmanship that has always guided my work. It’s less about decoration, more about how something feels — grounded, intentional, alive.
This recent trip was about reconnection — visiting makers, walking through workshops, and shaping the foundation for .studio.tonic , a new extension of our design world. Through it, we’re bringing furniture and objects from South Africa to our projects abroad — pieces that carry a story, a texture, and a sense of place.
To me, it’s all part of the same language: creating spaces and objects that feel quietly extraordinary.
