Interiors may get all the buzz but Exteriors are fun, too! Here's how most Design Firms (including us) select exterior colors for residential projects:

1. Look at the Architecture - As interior designers, we have to make sure we take in all components of the home including its architectural style, age, and any unique features.

2. Consider Surroundings: We don't just look at the architecture of the home but what neighborhood its in and the surrounding environment's design.

3. Determine Mood + Style: While we consider the architecture of the home and its surroundings environment, it's also important to consider the mood we want the exterior to convey. Does our client want the exterior to be inviting or calming? If so, we would go with warm colors for a more inviting home or cool colors for a more peaceful exterior.

No designer is perfect and when starting out you may run into a few issues on projects. Here are a few common design mistakes and steps you can take beforehand to prevent them.

Choosing the wrong color: Before sticking to a color, test it first with paint swatches or consider going neutral to limit clashing.

Ill-Sized Furniture: In order to avoid a room looking clunky or sparse, understand and utilize scale.

Little-to-no-light: If a space has little natural light, don't stick to one light source but instead layer lighting with multiple light sources.
