Hey all, here’s my mom. She’s 86, she goes to the gym 5 days a week and walks on the beach with her dog Tammy every day (weather permitting). She’s always up for doing something or going somewhere, she’s pretty computer savvy for a person of her generation and she has a great sense of humor. Isn’t she the cutest thing.

Some of you are aware that I had back surgery on Feb 14th. I have been dealing with sciatic back pain for a year due to a bulging disc. Surgery was successful in deflation of the disc and removing some bone that was all touching the nerve. Getting out in the shop today for the first time since surgery. I got some Walnut, Hard Maple and Wormy Maple the other day at Windsor Plywood. It’s a local store in the Tri-Cities area with a nice selection of wood, to include exotic woods. I thought some of you might be interested in knowing what type of wood lathe I have and how I decided on it. I started out with the Rikon 70–100 MIDI lathe, and I gained valuable experience and honed my skills. It was a great beginners wood lathe. But as my interest in wood turning grew, so did my need, for a lathe that could offer more versatility and capabilities. Before making any decisions, I did a lot of research. I had a list of must haves that included a lathe with forward and reverse functionality, variable speed control, and the flexibility of movable head and tails stocks. And size wise, a 12 inch lathe with a 42 inch reach is what I needed to handle a variety of projects. After much research, I purchased a 22 x 42 inch variable speed wood lathe, model G0766 from Grizzly Industrial Inc. It was reasonably priced and has been the best investment I have made. It not only meets but exceeds my expectations.

Making urns is very special and rewarding to me. On the site we have urns that I have already made. I also really enjoy customizing urns for individuals to give them a more personalized touch. Here is a picture of our sweet girl Ivie and the urn I turned for her. My father-in-law always called her Miss Universe so as you will see, I made a crown for the top of her urn.
