Today is such a special day... April 20th marks what would’ve been my Auntie Lula’s 74th birthday — and the 6-year anniversary of Lula’s Candle Co. 🎂
On this day back in 2019, I officially announced to my family and friends that I was launching this brand and crowdfunding campaign in her honor. Tonight I'll light few candles to celebrate her — the woman who taught me to create with my hands, encouraged me endlessly, and filled our lives with love and light. 💡
To the woman I honor every day with this company:

It’s wild to think about what has blossomed from that first announcement. This little idea has grown into something so beautiful and purpose-driven — more than I ever could have imagined.

Sometimes people just need someone…
▫️To be kind to them.
▫️To listen to them.
▫️To not judge them.
▫️To check on them.
▫️To love them when they back away/disappear.
▫️To ask how they are doing and really care to hear the answer.
▫️To not assume that they are strong and can handle “it” because they always do.
▫️To not think because they are smiling they are truly happy.
Sometimes people just need to know someone else cares and loves them despite the internal battles they might face ❤️

How It Began
This candle company was birthed out of pain and grief from losing my mom's Godmother, one of my Granny's best friends and the woman I affectionately called my Auntie Lula. In January 2018, she passed from her battle with cancer and gained her wings. I created Lula’s Candle Co. to honor her, to thank her, to become the woman I knew she’d always want me to be, to remember those who may have also lost their loved ones due to cancer and to celebrate the lives of others who have endured and come out on the other side beating this disease!
The Vision
My hope is to shine a light on cancer, support those it impacts while brightening your homes. A small portion of our proceeds will support individuals (and/or their families) battling cancer. With nine in ten US homes having candles as decor, these candles are the perfect way to leave a lasting impression, spark meaningful conversations for a cause we all care about and directly support individuals/family battling this disease.
Our Candles
All of our beautiful candles will be 100% natural soy based, which burns cleaner than other wax based candles = this means they are eco-friendly and good for you/your home. Free of paraffin wax (petroleum by-products), palm wax, additives, and dyes. We will hand-pour in small batches to assure quality and consistency.
Our Room Mists
Elevate any atmosphere with our alluring, luxury room mist... A premium quality air freshening spray that will add a designer touch, is easy to use and a great way to freshen any room, office, car, etc. Our luxury room mists are the perfect compliment to our hand-poured soy candles! The sleek bottle designs adds an upscale appearance to any place it resides; it is the perfect size to carry on the go!
The Founder, Courtney D. Sykes
Behind the scenes, Lula’s Candle Co. is a one-woman, minority-owned small business created by Courtney D. Sykes. She was born and raised in a small town called Apopka, FL and currently resides in Atlanta, GA with her husband. When she is not doing the work of building this business, actually making and burning these amazing candles, she enjoys traveling with her hubby, serving her community, and hanging out with her family and friends.
