I came across a post in one of our local city pages where a lady was asking if someone could paint a picture of a house on a canvas. I, of course, left a comment! She reached out and gave me the opportunity to do this for her!

She wanted an old photo (faded/hazy photo and all) of her mother's childhood home painted so she could give it to her for Mother's Day 🩷. I used editing to try and bring out the true colors the best I could from the old photo.

Yesterday I shared a painting I did for a good friend/business colleague back during the holidays.

Before my skills started developing, I would always wonder how an artist achieved certain things that made things POP or make them look real and not all just sitting next to each other in a line on a canvas.

Honestly, it comes down a lot to layering, shadows, and highlights! Layering to make something look like it's in the background when it's painted right next to something else. Lightening or darkening the paint color just a teeny tiny bit to have the 3D effect because of an imaginary light shining on one side. Something so simple helps make Santa's coat look bunched or wrinkled in certain spots like he's actually wearing it! Even Santa himself had a bunch of layers before looking like he should!

Sorry for rambling! Just in case there is an artist looking at my page that's just getting started, I wanted to show that every painting has an awkward stage (or 3) before it's layers and colors come together just how you need them to 😊.

I know I know...it's not Christmas anymore. I was looking at previous paintings for some motivation to get back to work on one I'm trying to finish and I came across this one! I just really love how this one turned out.

Thank you to everyone that helped me find a name for this beautiful painting!

There were so many good suggestions and was hard to pick!

I chose Brett Walker's "Cotton Candy Skies, Good Nights". I knew it was the one as soon as I read it!
