Kevin Francis Design

Kevin Francis Design Atlanta-based Product & Interior Design Studio by Kevin Francis O'Gara III He resides in Atlanta with his brown standard poodle Leopold.

Kevin founded his acclaimed design blog Thou Swell as a sophomore in high school, and has collaborated with over 50 national brands such as Behr Paint, The Home Depot, Target, World Market, and West Elm to produce sophisticated design projects for his followers. His interior design work has been featured in publications including Better Homes & Gardens, Domino, HGTV Magazine, House Beautiful, and

more. With a keen eye for infusing traditional decor with a youthful contemporary spirit, he is an emerging voice in Southern design. In 2018 he founded his eponymous product studio Kevin Francis Design at the age of 21, in collaboration with a local rug company. After months of searching for the perfect inspiration, an aerial image of the gardens at the Château de Villandry struck him and the debut Labyrinth Collection was born. With its roots in myths, meditation, and lush landscapes, these verdant garden designs are brought to life with luxurious wool and bamboo silk rugs that preserve the asymmetries of each maze in their patterns. Kevin studied in Cornell University’s interior design and hospitality management programs. With a passion for transformative design and development, he brings a unique residential perspective to projects ranging from interior design to product development.

For the centerpiece of this recently-installed dining area in my Boulder renovation project, I selected the Esme Chandelier with Smoke glass, so perfectly representative of the meeting of rustic elements and feminine details that defines this modern mountain house.

The dining room should never be bright but rather have a warm, inviting glow, and this fixture checks all the boxes. It’s sculptural, whimsical, and recalls the natural surroundings of the house.

Its the ultimate jewelry for a room – see the three other colorways from

I’m excited to share a first look inside a special renovation project I’ve been working on over the past two years. My close friend and client is the talented chef and event planner behind her family’s stunning Flagstaff Mountain estate , so naturally the dining area was the first space to come together.

The pièce de résistance in this room that bridges the kitchen and living room is the 14-foot wall I covered in ’s beautiful Wisteria Vine wallpaper. It’s a simpler, contemporary take on a chinoiserie floral that suits the rustic personality of this modern mountain house so well.

We’re in love with this paper – available in five other colorways too

Sometimes it’s hard to put into words what the last decade has looked like. My somewhat unconventional path in the design world has been purely led by my own passion, and I’m honored to have it captured so well in the latest issue of by writer Robin Howard.

From starting my Thou Swell blog as a teenager, to designing my first Labyrinth rug collection in college, to leaving Cornell, to building Kevin Francis Design into what it is today, I’m so grateful I’ve had the chance to create pieces that live in homes across the country and rooms real and virtual.

It’s been a winding, unconventional road but I couldn’t have done it without the audience I was able to build along the way; thank you to those who have followed me recently and those who have been following me for years.

Lacquer might feel like a daring, maximalist choice, but it’s more versatile than you might think. I like to think of it as an architecture and color enhancer: it adds depth to any surface, catches light differently through the day, and gives even a quiet palette a sense of movement that flat paint never will. The finish comes from multiple layers of paint, each one sanded to a polish before the next is applied, building up that liquid depth you can’t get any other way. Whether it’s a jewel-box study or a serene living room, lacquer reads as both classic and confident.

In these rooms, high-gloss surfaces become the backdrop for everything else to sing. One tip: skip the paint store’s high-gloss and use lacquer to get the proper finish. You can find a local approved painter on their website.
