Sometimes the best studio experiments start with an “Oh no…what did I just do?” 🫣

I was working with this white polymer clay and accidentally applied the Kamenskaya liquid gilding before baking.

The problem? I wasn’t sure what would happen once it went into the oven. Would it stay sticky? Would the finish scratch right off? Had I just ruined the whole slab? Would my oven have a problem actually baking the clay because the gilding liquid is alcohol-based?

There was only one way to find out.

I cut out my shapes using cling wrap, mixed the scraps with more white clay, cut out more shapes, and baked them all… and they came out beautifully. The gilding isn’t sticky at all, and even better, it doesn’t scratch off! The white clay peeks through but I like the look.

Definitely a happy accident. 😅

First sneak peek at the July Sparkle and Charm Box - bird earrings! 🐦

When I started designing this box, I was thinking about the wild field beside my house. Every summer it’s filled with colorful flowers, and sometimes a bird or butterfly enjoying it too. The name Wildflower Meadows seemed very fitting for the theme.

That inspiration led me to a bright, cheerful color palette using Cornflower, Bright Green Pearl, Turnip, Canary, and Igloo polymer clay.

Because of the techniques I use to create the clay patterns, no two pairs are exactly alike. Each one has its own unique mix of color and pattern, making every pair one of a kind.

And speaking of wild fields, if you could spend an afternoon in a wildflower meadow, what would you hope to see first… birds, butterflies, or blooming flowers?

Sometimes, taking an unexpected pause is exactly what you need.

After a creative rut and a broken foot that put jewelry making on hold for a while, I’m finally back in the studio. And somewhere along the way, my creative spark returned.

As I started creating again, I realized it was time for a new direction for the Sparkle and Charm Box. This change feels more aligned with my vision, brings me even more joy to create, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
