This very fine Black and White photograph of the “Seattle to Bremerton Ferry” was taken on a chilly, breezy, early spring day. This gallery-quality art photograph, captures the ferry "Tilikum" as it makes its way between Seattle and Bremerton, WA. The image is black and white, emphasizing dramatic contrasts and details. The ferry, with its multiple decks and antennas, slices through the water, leaving a trailing wake behind.
In the background, snow-capped mountains rise majestically under a textured sky, full of swirling clouds.

I took this photograph of the Coquille River Lighthouse last weekend. The light midafternoon was outstanding. Click on the image to see a much larger, better detailed version.
The Coquille River Lighthouse in Bandon, Oregon was first lit in 1896 to guide ships safely across the dangerous bar at the river’s mouth. Built of stuccoed brick with a distinctive conical tower and octagonal fog‑signal room, it originally used a fourth‑order Fresnel lens and a Daboll trumpet. After being abandoned in 1939, it was restored beginning in 1976 and now stands as a historic landmark within Bullards Beach State Park.
Tech notes: I made this photograph on my Nikon D610 using a 50mm lens at f/8, 1/500 sec, ISO 200. Underexposed by 1 f-stop to not blowup the highlights. That combo gave me a nice balance—enough depth of field to keep things crisp, and a fast enough shutter to hold everything steady. (It was very windy – a common condition on the Oregon Coast). I also had a UV‑1 filter and a polarizer filter to knock down glare and keep the details looking clean.

We stayed the night at the Riverside Inn in Grants Pass OR. Nice Digs. For dinner we walked from the inn along the river to the Taproom. Good food there. Just some recommendations.

On our Oregon Coast trip we stopped at the "Sew Little Time" shop in Tillamook. The shop is at the end of a country road. (Not far from the main road.) We were greeted by donkeys in the field next the shop. For Cherie it was a great find - a bigger than it looks store - very well organized and full of collections of fabric for quilts and crafting. If you are in the area we recommend you stop in. 10075 S Prairie Rd, Tillamook, OR 97141.

One of our favorite places to have lunch is the Bären Haus in Leavenworth, WA. The atmosphere is lively and old‑world, with a steady flow of locals and tourists coming for dependable favorites. It is a family‑owned Bavarian restaurant known for its authentic German entrées, homemade sauces, and fresh‑baked breads. Our favorite is the Rubin Sandwich made with homemade rye bread.
Located in the old brick building on the corner, it offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere with other hearty classics like schnitzel, bratwurst, and stuffed cabbage rolls.
