Three months of stitching later... here is my hairy bush viper WIP! It's officially the toughest project l've ever taken on. I'm using a single strand of thread for everything. Based on a stunning photo by Mark Kostitch. What do you think so far?

Three years ago, I picked up a needle and thread for the first time, and it completely changed my creative world! 🧵✨

Before finding hand embroidery, my first love was drawing. I spent years working almost exclusively with graphite pencils, focusing on the details of black-and-white portraits. Because of that, stepping into the world of fiber arts meant facing a brand-new challenge: color. 🌈

Trading in my shading pencils for colorful skeins of thread was intimidating at first. Blending with stitches is so different from blending with graphite! But pushing past that comfort zone and learning how to bring a piece to life with vibrant color has been the most rewarding journey.

I’d love to know—how did you get started with your favorite hobby? Did you switch from a totally different craft like I did? 👇

I've paused stitching the snake's scales to start working on the foliage. I'm consistently impressed by how new colors alter my work's appearance; the greens make the snake really stand out.

I decided to restart my snake embroidery, and I like the results so much better. I'm using one strand for everything. It's been tedious, but I really like the effect. The design is based on a photograph by photographer Mark Kostitch.

My Current work in progress. This snake is giving me a run for my money. Choosing what colors to use has been the most difficult part of this project. (Original photo is by photographer Mark Kostitch)
