For years, I used to tell the people who worked with me, “I cannot fail.”I believed that with everything in me. I thought failure meant stopping, changing course, or letting go of something I had worked so hard to build.
Now I understand that sometimes holding on is the failure. Sometimes we become so committed to proving we can carry something that we never stop to ask whether we are still supposed to be carrying it.
This closing has taught me that I deserve to want more for myself. More peace. More presence with my family. More room to create. More of the life God is calling me toward.
I don’t think I would have had the courage to make this decision without a mentor of mine, Mr. Tom, one of the very few people I have ever known who simply offered to help me without wanting one single thing in return. There is something extraordinary about that. And, oddly, for the first time, I felt able to accept help without feeling indebted.
Above all, I am grateful for the unmistakable peace God gave me once I finally became willing to listen. God has a way of sending the right person at exactly the right time. Sometimes the right people help you see clearly enough to recognize what no longer belongs in the next chapter.
So, on my last day of retail, I know I haven’t failed. I feel like I finally understand what success was asking of me. I’m leaving behind something I love, something I am incredibly proud of, and something that changed my life. But I’m not walking away empty-handed. I’m taking every lesson, every relationship, every beautiful memory, and every bit of courage this place gave me.
Maybe the greatest faith isn’t believing you can make something work forever. Maybe it’s trusting God enough to know when He is telling you that you don’t have to anymore.
It’s just time for more (pun intended with Streamline Interiors & More). Thank you for 5 remarkable years.
Love & Blessings,
Jill
