Good morning from Old Fort, NC. We are sending love to everyone affected by Milton and hope the momentum of caring for each other continues as we all face our new reality. As I am typing this, we are at 86% of our goal to give each downtown small business $5,000! It would be huge to fully fund this effort and cut checks to each business owner this weekend. Selfishly, I am ready to shift my fundraising efforts to other matters that need attention– help me help the other businesses swiftly!
On-the-ground updates:
- Nicole and Glenn of Abbiocco Pizzeria are cleaning out and restoring their food truck so they can start serving as soon as possible
- Jess and Chris of Whaley Farm Brewery continue to clean out their space, find solutions for employees, and work with adjusters on-site.
- Seeker Coffee is open and serving coffee and free wifi.
- The Davis Country Store & Cafe and Tori are serving cinnamon french toast, hashbrowns, livermush, and maple sausage for breakfast
- Jeremy and Casey continue to help the community with the use of their heavy equipment
- I will be working on my inventory of equipment, art, and supplies for insurance and relief fund documentation
- Distribution centers are working hard to update their needs as they shift.
- Linemen and agencies are on the ground to restore power and assess damages
- Community members met last night to discuss needs and to continue our organizing efforts. More updates on this soon!
Thank you all for validating our experience and generously supporting our cause to get our small business community open again. Let’s reach our goal today!
