Friends, today is your last chance to get the June edition of Emotional Birds Mail Club.
I think that resisting despair has been fundamental to my healing and growth. It's hard to not wallow in the horrible news and current events, but there has to be happiness and celebration in order to keep going each day. Healing means learning that fear is not, and cannot be, all there is.

Do you remember the first book you read with a q***r story arc? For me, I'm pretty sure it was Anne Of Green Gables. I was 14 when I read that book series for the first time, and I just *knew* there was something beautifully special about the bond between Anne and Diana. That text sparked an inward curiosity that has only continued to grow.⁠⁠

Our brains are wired to keep us safe. That means that scary things, dangerous things, generally negative sorts of things tend to be wayyy more sticky. They take up more space in our thoughts. That means that we have to work extra hard to lean into our own happiness. We have to be deliberate both in cultivating moments of joy, and holding that joy in our minds. It's not something that just happens; it's a daily practice.
This sweet little bird is a white breasted wood wren. I love the speckles along its neck, and the black markings on its wings.
Building a life where joy is a daily practice.
