I had the privilege of designing a custom light fixture for a private client’s historic home on Lake Michigan. What started as a complimentary gift in a website order turned into one of the studio’s largest commissions, with the final piece spanning seven feet!

This mini series is highlighting past & present projects as a way to catalog some things that have gotten lost in the sauce over the years.

Part 1/3. Enjoy!

Revisiting a project I’m still very proud of today💡 On the Journal, I’m detailing a custom light fixture for a private client’s historic Lake Michigan home.

What began as a small thank-you gift grew into one of the studio’s largest commissions, with the final piece spanning SEVEN feet!

The initial visualization. Taking inspiration from natural shapes and mobiles.

In collaboration with a master glass blower, we tested a lot of whites and creams before he and his team attempted the final piece. Anders Rydstedt

In situ. Like, damn 🔥

Observations is a heartfelt attempt to offer meaningful connection offline. Each month, I send a handwritten letter, a poem and a couple postcards with a photo I’ve taken. Some months, I’ll even include little extras like a playlist or a small packet of seeds which I did for April’s mailing. Consider this a very curated newsletter in snail mail form. Subscribe by May 15th to get this month’s Observations 🌷

This month, I quietly launched a new project called Observations. It’s a monthly piece of mail that intimately offers a way to ground in this wild world we find ourselves in.

Here’s a little look back at what April’s Observations held:

- a handwritten letter

- a simple poem

- two postcards (one for you, one to share)

- SPECIAL EXTRAS: a stamp, a playlist and a pack of cone flower seeds for you to plant (because gardening and growing things builds hope, if you didn’t know 😉)

I’ve found it to be a transformational experience to simply observe what is taking place in the natural world. It’s where I can feel awe and wonder bubble up within me. My hope for you, who opt to receive these monthly Observations, is that you feel this same sense of connection and wonderment.

As the poet David Whyte writes in his brilliant poem “To feel abandoned is to deny the intimacy of your surroundings… Everything is waiting for you.”
