We are very excited to have Arlan & Pat Christ joining us this year, and sharing their amazing collection of 30 antique quilts entitled "A Slice of Cheddar".
The “Slice of Cheddar” exhibit affords the opportunity to showcase some of the bold and colorful quilts of the Pennsylvania Dutch from the late nineteenth century. The southeastern region of Pennsylvania became a melting pot of mostly German immigrants that developed into an ethnic group known as the “Pennsylvania Dutch.” The Pennsylvania Dutch love color, which is reflected in their folk art and quilts. The bold, bright, and sometimes unusual choices of colors are distinctly their own during this time period. This exhibit is all about color, with a focus on the use of cheddar. The color cheddar is used in a bold fashion or perhaps as a simple accent. The love of color and quilting set before us by our ancestors has become the focus and passion of our quilt collection. It is our hope to preserve the history of those individuals that walked before us creating these wonderful examples of the past. The next time you need a special color for your choice of fabric.... consider “cheddar.”
Arlan & Pat will be doing a free walkthrough and talk for the exhibit on Friday and Saturday of the show. You do not need a ticket, but we encourage you to reserve one so we have an accurate count for attendance.
Tickets for Friday are currently "sold out"

These quilts, along with over 200 additional quilts, can be seen June 18-20, 2026 at The DoubleTree Expo Center in S. Burlington, VT.

For our 2026 show we are happy to welcome works from the Studio Art Quilt Associates of NY, NJ, PA and CT, who have generously lent us their Design Showcase 2025.
SAQA CT, SAQA NJ + NY, and SAQA PA showcase the impressive creativity and diverse approaches that members take in creating art quilts.
Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt. Our vision is that the art quilt is universally respected as a fine art medium. SAQA’s core values are: excellence, innovation, integrity, and inclusion. Over the past 35 years, SAQA has grown into a dynamic and active community of over 4,000 artists, curators, collectors, and art professionals located around the world.
SAQA CT, SAQA NJ + NY, and SAQA PA showcase the impressive creativity and diverse approaches that members take in creating art quilts. The collection of 50 pieces highlights different elements of the art quilt form and introduces our artists to the region. In creating their pieces, artists considered their personal style and identified the creative choices that were most impactful (Approach, Materials, Construction, Surface, and Genre).

Our next showcase exhibit will be Milk & Honey Quilt Guild from Middlebury, VT!
Milk and Honey Quilters began more than thirty years ago as a small, informal and supportive group for quilters and anyone interesting in quilting. Over the years, we have now grown to seventy members.
Our monthly guild meetings consist of a business meeting, Show and Tell, Q&A which often results in sharing tips and tricks with each other, and often a locally or nationally recognized guest speaker and/or trunk show. We dedicate at least one of our meetings to community service sewing projects. Occasionally we host workshops taught by recognized fiber artists. For a schedule of this year's program and activities, click on the Meetings link in the banner, above.
Every other year we hold a non-juried, non-judged quilt show where quilters from around the state (and beyond) have an opportunity to share their work with the community.

During the 2026 Vermont Quilt Show, join Pat & Arlan Christ for this one hour walkthrough and talk about their Antique Quilt Exhibit "A Slice of Cheddar Collection". These talks will take you through the exhibit and give you a chance to hear about the quilts directly from the curators. Walk-throughs will happen at 11 am Friday and Saturday (sorry, no walkthrough on Thursday!) and will begin in the exhibit which is located in the Promenade section . While this is a free event, we ask that folks reserve a ticket so we can keep the crowds a manageable size.

Arlan and Pat Christ live in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Arlan is a tax accountant with his office located in Kutztown, PA. When Pat is not working for Arlan, she can be found in her sewing studio or tending their country gardens. They enjoy traveling to quilt shows and museums which provide the opportunity to examine quilts. Retrieving knowledge to secure the heritage of antique quilts has become the prime objective of The Christ Collection.

The Christs further explore their passion of antique quilts while attending quilt study groups. Pat and Arlan are members of the Lehigh Valley Quilt Study Group, Mid-Atlantic Quilt Study Group, American Quilt Study Group, Quilter's Hall of Fame, Midwest Fabric Study Group and Baltimore Appliqué Society.

The Christs have three publications representing quilts in their collection. The first catalog was published May 2009 entitled "Pennsylvania Quilt Treasures: The Art of the Needle." Their second catalog "America's Appliquéd Quilts: A Treasured Pennsylvania Tradition" was published June of 2010. "American Pride: Eagles & Stars" was published in June of 2014. They also published various applique patterns representing quilts in their collection.

Arlan and Pat Christ want to preserve the legacy of quilts from past generations by sharing the history that surrounds the art of quilting.
