SERIES 02 — MORE THAN A STARTER

A sourdough starter continues because someone keeps returning to it.

Feeding it. Using it. Saving some. Beginning again.

Maybe some of the things that last are built the same way. Not all at once, but through small acts of tending over time.

Comment STARTER and we’ll send you the link to receive the free 55-page Oak N’ Egg Journal.

September Evenings.

A table set simply. A Crock Pot filled with something warm. Conversation that carried us from daylight into candlelight and eventually out by the fire.

Nothing elaborate was needed. Just an open door, a comforting meal, and time to slow down together.

This is the heart of ForeGather Co. Bringing people back to the table, one ordinary evening at a time.

LOADED POTATO LEEK SOUP

Serves 7 to 9

Ingredients

3 cartons premade leek soup, about 32 ounces each
4 large baking potatoes, peeled and diced
Garlic powder, generously to taste
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, generously to taste
1½ to 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
10 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
Green onions and additional cheddar for topping, optional

Directions

Add the leek soup, potatoes, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to a large Crock Pot.

Cook on LOW for 6 to 7 hours or HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the potatoes are very tender.

Mash some of the potatoes directly in the Crock Pot while leaving plenty of hearty pieces.

Stir in the cheddar and half of the bacon. Cook on LOW for another 20 to 30 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

Serve topped with the remaining bacon, additional cheddar, and green onions.

No broth, heavy cream, sour cream, or yogurt needed.

If you have a Grocery Outlet nearby, check for their organic leek soup. I found it for around $2 per carton, making this meal both affordable and delicious.

Save this recipe for your next cool evening around the table.

Only the remaining sets are available.

Our Heirloom Bowl Covers were never meant to stay in the Mercantile forever. Each reversible set is handcrafted in a small batch by Arietta using 100% cotton, made to cover rising dough, leftovers, casserole dishes, and the bowls that are always finding their way back to the table.

They are practical, beautiful, and intended to be used for years. A thoughtful alternative to disposable wrap.

This is a limited edition ForeGather Co × Oak N’ Egg collection. The door to this collection closes in November, and once these final sets are gone, they will not be restocked.

If you have had your eye on them, now is the time to bring a set home. Shop through the link in our bio.

SERIES 01 — MORE THAN BREAD

Bread has a way of asking us to slow down.

To mix. To wait. To let time do what rushing cannot.

And somewhere in that waiting, something ordinary becomes something worth gathering around.

Comment SLOW and we’ll send you the link to receive the free 55-page Oak N’ Egg Journal.

It starts here.

With children who know there is room for them. Children who are welcomed into the meal, the conversation, and the life happening around the table. Not asked to wait at the edges until they are quieter, older, or easier.

I asked them to run because childhood is full of movement, and restoring the table cannot mean asking children to become less like children. It means making room for the noise, the questions, the spills, and the growing.

ForeGather Co is more than the bowl covers or the Rooted Edition. Those are tools that help us prepare the place and return to it.

Because the table is where we first learn how to make room for one another in the world.

Bringing people back to the table starts by showing our children they have always belonged there.
