Kim recognized the need for a sewing hub in Southern Colorado, so she did what any industrious person would do -- she bought four sewing machines and began teaching lessons anywhere that would host her. She eventually upgraded to teaching and selling sewing machines in the back of a bookshop, but it was clear community members wanted a dedicated space to spread their wings. We have a wide selectio

n of Baby Lock, and Janome sewing machines, quilting fabrics, and supplies, and we host a variety of classes to learn and grow your skills. We’re passionate about supporting our neighbors in their creative endeavors and promise to always welcome you with a smile. If you need help with a project or haven’t tried quilting before and want to learn more, we invite you to join us at First Stitches.

First Stitches Sewing Store and Quilt Shop in Cañon City, Colorado announces it will permanently close its doors on September 30th.

Since opening in 2012, First Stitches has served the Southern Colorado community as a premier destination for sewing and quilting enthusiasts. The shop has offered a wide selection of affordable to high-end sewing and embroidery machines, fabrics, notions, patterns, and books.

“We are deeply grateful to our loyal customers, friends, and the Cañon City community who have supported First Stitches since 2012,” said owner, Josh Bradford. “It has been a privilege to help so many people pursue their creative passions.”

The store will remain open through its final day of operation on September 30, 2026. Machines needing servicing must be brought in no later than September 5, 2026. Liquidation sales begin in September. Watch your emails.

Check out Martha S. "Halloween Bags". Using some leftover fabrics and Quilting Treasures' "Creepin' it Real" fabrics, Martha used her own bag pattern to prep for that spooky night. We love them!

A true act of love from our local quilters!
The Sit & Sew group, comprising Martha, Trudy, Carol, Barb, and Debbie, convened with Lori Ann, a Beulah fire victim, at First Stitches in Cañon City, Colorado to facilitate the handover of over 75 donated quilts and numerous pillowcases to Jill Laca, Public Information Officer of the Beulah Fire Department, for distribution to Aspen Acres fire victims. (The Sit & Sew group dedicated a sew day at First Stitches in July, to craft charity quilts for fire victims.)
