🌿 Why don’t we use synthetic fragrance oils in our candles? 🕯️

Because when we created Safe Scents, we wanted to take a different approach to scent.

Many conventional candles get their scent from fragrance oils — formulated mixtures that can contain numerous aroma ingredients. While approved fragrance ingredients aren’t automatically unsafe simply because they’re synthetic, we know many of our customers prefer a simpler, plant-derived approach to fragrance. 🤍

That’s why we choose essential oils.

🍊 Orange comes from Orange Essential Oil.
💜 Lavender comes from Lavender Essential Oil.
🌲 Balsam comes from Balsam Fir Essential Oil.
🌿 Peppermint comes from Peppermint Essential Oil.

And when we want to create something more complex? We blend essential oils together.

Our Spiced Orange, for example, gets its aroma from Orange, Cinnamon, Clove + Nutmeg essential oils — not an artificial “fall” fragrance. 🍊🍂

It can make candle making a little more challenging, but it’s been part of our mission from the beginning.

It’s one of the many intentional choices we’ve made when creating Safe Scents candles.

Instead of cotton wicks, we use wooden wicks in our candles. 🤎

🌿 They fit our simple, natural approach to candle making
🔥 They create a beautiful, cozy flame
🪵 They give you that subtle crackling sound while they burn
✨ And we love the clean, minimal look they give our candles

Our wooden wicks contain no cotton, no zinc or metal cores, and aren’t sprayed with pesticides or burn enhancing chemicals.

From our coconut wax + beeswax blend to our essential-oil-only scents, we’re intentional about the ingredients and materials that go into every candle we make — right down to the wick. 🕯️🤍
