🌸 WHAT GOES INTO THE PRICE OF A BOUQUET? 🌸

I love a good educational post, and I think it’s important for you to know what you’re getting when you purchase flowers from Wanatee Creek Farm — and how I come up with my pricing!

When sold individually, cut flowers can roughly be valued around:

🌸 Standard Dahlias — $3+ per stem
🌸 Premium & Dinner Plate Dahlias — $4–$6+ per stem
🌿 Hydrangea — $3–$6+ per stem
🌻 Sunflowers — $1.50–$3 per stem
🌷 Snapdragons — $1.50–$2 per stem
🌾 Celosia — $1–$1.50 per stem
🌼 Zinnias — $1–$1.50 per stem
🤍 Strawflowers — $1–$1.50 per stem

Of course, flower prices vary based on variety, size, quality, location, and whether they’re being sold wholesale or retail.

And that’s just the flowers!

There’s also kraft paper, ribbon, rubber bands, staples, mason jars, buckets, sanitizer, shears, and all of the little supplies that help get those flowers from the garden to you.

Then there’s the biggest part: the labor. 🌿

Before a bouquet ever reaches your table, those flowers have been planted, watered, weeded, staked, deadheaded, harvested, stripped, conditioned, sorted, arranged, and wrapped - all by hand.

So when you see one of my bouquets priced at $15, $20, $25, or $30, that number isn’t arbitrary. I try to consider the value of the stems inside, the supplies used, and the work that went into growing and creating it.

And sometimes, when you actually add up the individual value of every stem, you’re getting more in flowers than the price of the bouquet itself. As a girly who loves a full vase - I’m okay with that. 🤎

I’m still learning every day, but transparency is important to me - and I think it’s pretty cool to know just how much goes into one little bouquet!

Taking this market week off! 🌸

Between all of the first-day-of-school bouquets, first day for myself, and flowers for a bridal shower this weekend, Wanatee Creek Farm has been keeping plenty busy. 💐🤍

I won’t be at the Ely Farmers Market tomorrow, but if you’re looking for flowers, feel free to send me a message here on Facebook!

And please still head out to the market from 4:30–6:30 PM and support all of the other wonderful local vendors. 🌿

I put together a few Welcome Back bouquets this week, and I’d love to make some more! Whether it’s for a teacher, coworker, school secretary, para, or just someone who deserves a little first-week pick-me-up, fresh flowers are a pretty sweet way to say “I’m glad you’re here.” 🤍
