Vacation Groove!Today is the day!

It’s been a while since I’ve released a collection of small work and this one is inspired by that feeling that hits about three days into a week-long vacation.

You know, when you forget what day it is, and that feels really good?

I’ve never really thought about this before.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As I sat on my front porch and planned this next series of paintings, I considered what I gravitated towards.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m inspired by the marshes of the Lowcountry. I mean, who isn’t?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not only do I love seeing the water, but the cool greens and blues are serene and calming.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, as I thought about this collection, it is as much about the color as the subject matter.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve always loved being outdoors, and that might be why I love cool blues and greens in my work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And, I can’t believe this is all practically in my backyard!

Many of these pieces are inspired by palm trees in the Carolinas and Florida.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But a few are inspired by the palm trees of the Pacific coast. It will always hold a special place in my heart.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I remember going on a trip with my family when I was a young teenager. We started in San Francisco and worked our way down Highway 1 through Carmel, Big Sur, and then down to Pismo Beach and San Diego.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My husband, Joe, and I took the same trip many times, but the most memorable was when we took our children. I think it might have been payback for all the complaining and arguing with my brother from the backseat of our station wagon.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, I wouldn’t change those memories for the world.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The ‘Breezy’ Collection releases tomorrow! 🌴
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know that the palm trees in the West are different than the ones we have here in the Carolinas?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You’ll see that each palm tree is a little different because different places inspire them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some of the pieces are inspired by photos I took of the palm trees in Hawaii when we were there celebrating our 25th anniversary. Joe wanted to go there on our honeymoon, but we didn’t have enough time off work to fly all the way from Charlotte. So, we finally made it there 25 years later.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I expected it to be just like the Caribbean, but it felt so different.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He played golf in Maui, and I sunbathed and shopped. We kayaked, saw volcanoes and coffee producers, and went to a luau. 🌺
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We ate fresh fish, drank Mai Tais, and listened to ukulele music. 🍹
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few of these pieces capture that ‘feel’ of our 50th state. I’d love to go back.
