For those that may not know……

In North Carolina, labor is not always taxable — however, the state does require sales tax on certain services, including installation, repair, and maintenance services.

Under NC General Statute § 105-164.4(a), the gross receipts from repair, maintenance, and installation services are subject to sales tax, and § 105-164.3 defines those services.

Because these jobs involve installation labor, the labor portion is required by law to be taxed. This isn’t a company policy — it’s a North Carolina Department of Revenue requirement.
