Moriah Spicer Interior Designer and Virtual Assistant

Moriah Spicer Interior Designer and Virtual Assistant Senior at Illinois State University
Major: Interior Design Hi, my name is Moriah Spicer.

My husband and I live in Normal, Illinois while I finish school at Illinois State University. I am a passionate designer with specific interest in the Tiny House Movement and the effects of homelessness in the U.S. I wanted a way to connect with more people and begin working for them in a way that was convenient for them, yet also share my passion of Interior Design at the same time. My website wa

s developed with my portfolio in mind and the blog is a place where I can advocate for the design world and support the work I do as a virtual assistant.

Hello and Happy New Year!
I am excited to announce that Zac and I are picking up our trailer this evening for our Tiny Home.
We are going to start cleaning, prepping, and painting the trailer this week while finalizing and printing out Construction Docs for the *build*.

*We just started a build group on FB, so if you are interested in helping and live in the Bloomington-Normal area, let me know and I can add you to the group.

Zac and I made an impulse buy the other day...
Bought an Ethan Allen couch at ReStore for $17!
It will fit perfectly in our tiny house but it is a bit over the top!
Challenging my usual style and strategy for decor within a space because of our love for this couch and fabric.

Zac and I found some free hardwood oak flooring on Facebook Marketplace! We are taking the time to pull out staples and nails in order to save the $200-$500 on new or used flooring!
We will keep y'all up to date as we get all the flooring sorted and cleaned!
Once it is installed in March, we will sand it down, rough it up, and stain it to a darker color!

Zac and I are building a tiny home! Here are pictures of the floor plan and some isometric images.
We are currently getting signatures from apartment neighbors and eventually our landords for permission to build in our large parking lot.
We are also looking at a possible trailer today! Will keep y'all posted.
Let us know any ideas you have or suggestions for our build!
We are excited to be looking at a possible trailer this evening as well!

LIFE UPDATE:
Hey folks,
I didn't write a post last week, mostly because I didn't have much to update ya'll on, but also because I forgot, lol. These past couple of weeks have been pretty typical for Zac and I. In two weeks the ISU students will be back in town and I am excited to meet many of the incoming freshmen! Zac and I are leaders within our campus church and will be reaching out to the ISU campus in two weeks and I am ready to see how God will be working this year on campus. I have been making plans for my future interior design firm and brainstorming ways to build a solid foundation for that future!

LIFE UPDATE:
Hey guys, Zac's birthday was just this last Tuesday and we celebrated during the weekend by slack lining, hammocking, going to the see Ant Man 2, and eating a lot of good food. Tonight we are spending time grilling out with some friends and making s'mores at Comlara Park!

Work has been picking up in pace and I have lots to do almost every day, which has been exhausting, yet so enjoyable! Since I am a tech, on my computer all day, I have lots of time to listen to podcasts. Some of my favorites so far have been:
- This American Life
- The Goal Digger (Jenna Kutcher)
- Business of Design (Kimberley Seldon)
- Roofless Podcast
- Upside Down Podcast (Kayla Craig, Lindsy Wallace, Shannon Evans)
- A Well-Designed Business (Luann Nigara)

What are some of your favorite Podcasts to listen to? I want to listen!

LIFE UPDATE:
Hello hello! So, about a month ago I officially graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design (although I have yet to receive my diploma...). Zac and I had our 1-year anniversary. And two weeks ago, I also was accepted to my first "real" job (a.k.a. not-in-food-service) at G.A. Rich and Sons, Inc. It is a Mechanical company that specializes in commercial piping/plumbing. I am their BIM Technician (Building Information Modelling) and do much of the 3D pipe system sections for the shop guys to pre-fabricate. I am enjoying my job a great deal and the people I work with.

Anyone else recently start a new job? Or also graduate from their university?

Hello Friends,
I have decided to be a bit more honest with myself within the realm of social media. I am not one to post often (as you know haha) and when I do, it may not be the most purposeful. I have decided to begin posting more often with more purposeful and personal postings to get to know you all a bit better. I am going to honestly try posting life updates every other Wednesday and intriguing-to-me news stories every Friday. If you have any advice, questions, or comments, please share! I would love to grow my network of relationships with all of you within this realm of social media that I am not extremely skillful at!
