Consider using fabric (regular fabric, bedsheets, etc.) And also consider padding between the wall and the fabric to soften the finished surface which also quiets noise.

A DIY fabric accent wall covered in new or repurposed material is an easy, stress-free, and renter-friendly way to upgrade a space with unique decor.

NOTE to all who elect to choose natural textile wallcoverings about possible and unforseen costs before they ever get their wallcoverings hung. This image indicates just one degree of how badly shaded that kind of material can be and why its important to pre-inspect each and every roll before hanging even one. All grasscloth is made in Asia and, you'd think, that the level of price and reputation of the brand would indicate the inspection of every roll they sell...well, it doesn't. The rolls are factory cellophaned so no one can see them except the dollar an hour workers who dye it, roll it and cellophane it and the paperhanger who is dependent upon it being good enough to hang. I am trying to communicate that I have yet to have a designer, homeowner or retailer to actually unroll and inspect any of this or any other kind of wallcovering and, despite the nature of this rather harsh message, we paperhangers need to charge for the unrolling, inspection, matching and every other risk we put into doing this job correctly because no one before us will bother to take the responsibility. I love when I arrive on a job and customers (who have signed off on my agreement, which clearly notifies THEM that THEY and not I are responsible for the loss time of setting up my table and equipment on-site and rescheduling due to obvious quality issues) get all confused when I hit their deposit for a half days labor for delaying me when I am doing them a service by first unrolling materials for inspection before beginning to install. With me (dont know about other hangers) you'll be notified before any hanging if I run into this problem during my initial pre-hanging inspection. There is a charge for my time to organize and arrange such materials and, if you have chosen grass or somewhere weave, expect a slight fee for this preparation step, which ultimately will save you a LOT of both disappointment and expense if not done correctly.
