Long before fire engines had motors, there were Dalmatians.

They ran beside horse-drawn fire wagons, clearing the road, guarding the horses, and keeping order in the chaos. They were chosen not for looks, but for stamina, intelligence, and an unshakable bond with the firehouse routine.

Dalmatians learned the rhythm of the station —
the waiting, the sudden urgency, the long nights, the return home. That history lives on in dogs like Ember.

She spent most of her life at the Fort Dodge Fire Station, not as a mascot, but as part of a tradition that stretches back generations. She belonged to the sounds of boots on concrete, bay doors lifting, and crews coming and going.

This card was created to honor that legacy —
the fire dogs who ran before sirens, who stood watch over horses and firefighters alike, and who became family inside the walls of the station.

Dex was never just big. He was presence.

He was the steady figure along the fence line,
running with my dogs, keeping pace with my laughing nieces, always gentle, always watching. A true gentle giant in every sense of the word.

Great Danes have a way of making space feel safer just by being in it. They don’t rush. They don’t demand attention. They simply are — quiet strength, calm reassurance, comfort that takes up space.

When a Great Dane leaves this world, they don’t hurry into heaven. They step through slowly, heads held high, hearts full, bringing with them the same calm they gave us here.

Dex left behind a family who loved him deeply —
and especially a little boy who misses his giant friend.

🌈🐾This Malamute legend and drawing was inspired by Kikka. A gentle giant with a heart just as big as her paws.

She loved her walks, loved the park, and loved being surrounded by friends — moving through the world with the quiet strength and steady loyalty Malamutes are known for.

In the legends, Malamutes do not rush beyond the Rainbow Bridge. They walk it slowly, head held high, carrying every memory of love with them.

Kikka was taken far too soon. But the love she gave, the space she filled, and the bond she created did not end.

That is how legends are born.

How we created the Legends of the Rainbow Bridge Collection 🌈

I have always been fascinated by the idea that Huskies earn a silver harness at the rainbow bridge—a symbol of their strength, loyalty, and wild spirit. That single detail stayed with me and made me wonder what other breeds might carry, earn, or become beyond the Rainbow Bridge.

That curiosity led me to research, write, and imagine legends for other dogs, cats, horses, and even fish - each one rooted in their unique spirit and the way they love us.

I took this idea to two amazing artists in my life Cameo Anderson - Writer / Illustrator snd Whisketch. I pitched them my idea and together we brought it to life.

The Husky illustration was modeled after Cy, who is very much alive. I wasn’t sure at first if using a real dog would work, but it helped ground the legend in something real and personal.

That’s what this collection is meant to be—
stories inspired by belief, imagination, and the dogs who shape our lives. 🌈🐾
