A (also called a French butter keeper) is a simple, old-school kitchen tool that keeps butter soft and spreadable at room temperature—without it going bad.
It has two parts:
• A base that holds a small amount of water
• A lid (the “bell”) where you pack the butter
When you place the butter-filled lid into the base, the water creates an airtight seal. That seal keeps oxygen out, which helps prevent spoilage and keeps your butter fresh and perfectly spreadable.
Why people love them:
• No more tearing toast with cold butter
• Stays soft and ready to use
• Looks beautiful on your counter (especially handmade ones 👀)
Quick tips:
• Change the water every couple of days
• Keep it in a cool spot, away from direct heat
• Use salted butter if your kitchen runs warm (it lasts longer)
It’s one of those things that feels a little fancy at first—and then you can’t imagine not having one.
This is a custom pair of kitties I did.
