Hi β‘Μ
If you are reading this, thank you for being here.
I wanted to take some time to introduce myself and my intention behind this page. My name is Kirsten Rhea Southerland and I am the human behind Rhea Sunshine Rugs.
I have always loved visual art and making things with my hands. When I was little my Aunt and Uncle would give me a paintbrush with a bucket of water to βpaintβ the sidewalk with. (I never realized how clever that idea was until I got older)
Growing up, I considered myself to be a pretty quiet person. I didnβt know how to verbalize my thoughts or emotions, but I shared my love for my family and friends by making personal things for them.
Fast-forward to a few years ago when I was introduced to the EDM scene. A community that I observed showing love by gifting kandi and trinkets to each other. It hit close to home. It was inspiring, and it has continued to inspire me.
Over time I have explored painting, drawing, pottery, glass art, digital art, diamond art, and random crafts that have mixed several mediums. My most recent exploration has been with rug tufting, and it started a little over a year ago.
I had posted a few rugs on my personal story and within a few hours I had people reaching out asking about getting a custom. I panicked. I had no idea how to put a price tag on art; and the imposter syndrome was intense. This took place while I was moving from one apartment to the next and I actually broke my frame while I was moving, so I took that as a sign from the universe that it wasnβt meant to be (it was actually just fear π₯²)
Fast-forward to a couple months ago. My partner and I were watching YouTube and we came across a rug tufting video. My inspiration and creative spark came back, and I decided to fix my frame and give it another try, but with more intentionality this time.
Regardless of your reason for following my journey, I appreciate you being here. My intention is to share my creative thoughts and processes and to help others bring their creative visions to life.
Feel free to message me about any questions or inquiries; or if you just want to say hi and share some music or art, I would love that too π«Ά
