Back in the 70s and 80s, Halloween wasn’t about curated costumes or fancy decorations — it was about freedom.

The kind that came with a pillowcase for candy, a plastic mask that made it hard to breathe, and the thrill of running through your neighborhood long after the streetlights flickered on.

We didn’t have parents following us with flashlights or phones tracking our every move.

We had packs of kids darting between yards, comparing loot, daring each other to knock on the “scary” house at the end of the block.

The air was crisp, the leaves crunched under our sneakers, and the night felt endless — alive with laughter, flashlights, and the sound of distant “trick or treats!” shouted into the dark.

We didn’t care about calories or costume perfection — we cared about who got the most Reese’s.

Those streets raised us.

They still echo with the sounds of childhood — of simpler times when imagination ruled the night and the world felt safe enough to wander.

Somewhere out there, those same sidewalks still remember us — the little ghosts, devils, witches, and superheroes who made Halloween pure magic.
