Juneteenth - Emancipation Day

The Emancipation Proclamation was issued January 1st, 1863. It took over two years for the news to reach Galveston. June 19th, 1865 was when the end of slavery was announced and effectively emancipated. This day remains one of the most important days in the US. Juneteenth (June + 19) was declared a federal holiday in 2021. Today we remember and honor those individuals and their families who were impacted by slavery. We celebrate all of the achievements and contributions of Black Americans.

We encourage you to research and better understand why today is such a monumental day.
