Finished with this Bible rebind. Life has been nutty busy so this one took me a while. This is Hermann Oak leather, lined with pigskin suede on the inside, with a hand stitched edge. At the beginning I was really worried about how I might do tulips that wouldn’t look weird, but I love how it turned out. Definitely enjoyed doing this one for a sweet friend, it combined my love of drawing flowers and also memories of doing sewing projects with my mother. I hope it blesses her for many years to come.

Another Bible rebind in the works. This one has lots of miles on it, and some duct tape retread to help it along. I began the process of taking it apart and saw all the little notes scattered throughout. Something about all the little kid notes to Mom just tugs at my heart. A big part of all those feels is the upcoming graduation of one of my own, seeing how it all goes by so quickly. They’re little one day, and then the next they’re grown up. I hope we have equipped our kids for their walk through life.
I also hope I’m equipped to dye this thing a lovely shade of brown and not totally mess it up. I love traditional western style leather designs, but I also love a realist vibe too.

All my Christmas projects are finished, as I was packing things up to take a break I found this belt strip that was my very first attempt at tooling. I had to laugh at how terrible it was. Grade c or d practice leather and Amazon tools weren’t ideal for a good result, but I guess it’s encouraging to see growth in our endeavors. 😂

🎅🏼Santa Claus is coming to town…. 🎅🏼
I haven’t done an oak leaf pattern in 2 years. I am loving making this belt, along with a smaller twin version, for two brothers. And I’ve enjoyed getting to know the grandmother who is gifting them.

I really wanted this belt to have a classic Sheridan/vintage 1970s style to it. Maybe that’s why it reminds me of the belt I wore when I was 4 or 5 that still hangs in my closet. Probably a little weird, I know.

This one was a birthday gift and will be going in the show ring for this year’s show season.

Finally posting this Bible rebind project. I was so honored to be asked to do this for a sweet friend. This Bible has lots of miles on it and it was apparent that much time had been poured into reading the Word from it. I was so afraid to mess it up. Taking the old cover off was a little scary, once I did that there was no going back. 😂 She and her husband are true friends to our family and have been a big part of discipling and being examples to our kids for a long time. I really wanted this project to reflect the blessing that she has been to me.

“It is finished…” I love the crown of thorns design, reminding us of Christ’s finished work on the cross. And, the pun intended was that I finally finished this thing and might have collapsed when I did the final overnight press to let it dry.
A friend asked about rebinding a Bible with a new leather cover. So, I embarked on an information binge to figure out how I could do the book binding part. This one is a prototype for practice before I do the real deal. I think I’m going to have to practice on at least one more. Way better to mess up your kid’s Bible than someone else’s. 😬

Something new and different is happening…. I don’t know what the chances are that this will turn out how I’m envisioning it, but there’s always a chance at disaster too. So, we’ll see.

This song seemed fitting, once I get to thinking about a project and pencils are going down on paper, the whole thing is a bit of madness and it’s literally always on my mind until I get it finished.

All finished and off to its new home, going in the show ring tonight! 😎
