We recently signed up to get this fire safety service unit free from our insurance co (State Farm). It’s just this small plug in smart sensor unit. We get a weekly email report letting us know if we had any surges, brownouts or outages, basically things that could cause an electrical fire (the most dangerous kind because they are in the wall and aren’t detected until they are out of control). I was shocked when I read what kind of things can cause electrical fires. Plus, our house is over 100 years old  and we have no idea what’s behind those walls. Even if your insurance company doesn’t provide this, I think it’s only like $50 a year. And if they detect something, not only will they let you know, but you can get up to $1000 to fix the problem. Do what you may with this, but it sure is peace of mind for us.
