HEY NORTH TEXAS – HERE’S HOW WE CAN START HELPING HURRICANE VICTIMS REBUILD!!
The Peekaboo Team in Dallas has been working on a plan to help our fellow Texans rebuild after Harvey. We’ve been war-gaming what rebuilding/restoring might look like and the challenges associated.
One of my biggest concerns is a shortage of materials. The first place I would head in that scenario would be a salvage yard which got me thinking, WE NEED TO BE SAVING ALL WE CAN RIGHT NOW WHEN RENOVATING.
If you are or will be renovating your home, a client's home or an investment property in the DFW area, I would encourage you to save any materials you think can be re-used.
Below is a list of a few items that can generally be re-used:
• Cabinet bases and uppers in tact - preferably with doors/drawers
• Cabinet hardware with screws in tact
• Counter tops that are in tact and clean – even countertops with cut-outs for sinks/stovetops can be re-purposed in a space, especially in this case where most will probably be starting from scratch.
• Bathroom cabinets with countertops
• Doors, Hinges and Door k***s – entry and interior
• Baseboards – in tact
• Clean light fixtures – at this point, I would say only if they are really nice and you would reuse in your own home.
If you’ve hired a general contractor or a contractor specializing in a specific trade, they can guide you through what is worth saving. You can also call your local salvage yards. Sometimes they will even demo a space for you at a small cost hauling the debris to the dump any usable items back to their yard. This still helps because you're increasing supply which will, in-turn, help rebuilding efforts.
There are organizations like Habitat for Humanity that will take construction and home remodeling materials. Below is a link where you can find these organizations and schedule a free pick-up:

Stay tuned. We should be releasing our game-plan within the next week which will include a more detailed plan of how and where we can help with our salvaged items. With renovations booming in our area, I just thought it was important to plant the seed ASAP.
Thanks for hearing me out!
