A true steam shower is not just a regular shower with a steam head added.

To actually hold the steam, the enclosure has to seal all the way to the ceiling.

That means a fundamentally different design than a standard shower enclosure.

A normal frameless setup is built to keep water in, not v***r.

Steam rises and escapes through every gap.

A steam shower needs full-height glass, a proper transom or header, and careful sealing at the top.

Done right, you get a genuine spa experience in your own bathroom, with steam that builds and stays instead of drifting into the rest of the room.

Done wrong, you paid for a steam unit that never quite works because the steam keeps escaping.

The glass, the seals, the ceiling detail, and the ventilation all have to be planned together.

On a full shower enclosure, it is obvious the moment you compare them side by side. If you picked a specific tile or a particular stone because you loved the color, standard glass can quietly mute it.

Low-iron glass lets that choice look exactly the way you intended. Most homeowners are never even told this option exists, so they default to standard glass and never realize the color they are seeing is slightly off.

It is one of those details that separates a custom job from a builder-grade one. Whether low-iron glass is worth it depends on your budget and how much glass you are putting in, but you deserve to know it is a choice.
