During this vacation, I’ve been doing my best to stay away from work and focus only on what is truly necessary. That isn’t easy—especially when I work with babies and they are always on my mind.

Still, this past week I’ve been trying to give my attention to my paintings. I’ve been working on something special for my niece. She turned 13 a few weeks ago, and I forgot to call her, so this is my way of doing something meaningful just for her.

Today was one of those beautiful days when I sat down to paint and time simply disappeared. I started at 9:00 a.m., and before I knew it, it was 2:00 p.m.—five hours completely lost inside the painting. It still needs a lot of work, but today felt really good.
