Reminder from Sarah’s Southern Kitchen 🩵

Sundays will always be slow around here.

No order pickups. No deliveries. No rushing around the kitchen trying to beat the clock. Just family, homemade food, and soaking in the little moments that go by way too fast.

This morning started with sourdough protein chocolate chip pancakes, eggs, sausage, and the boys helping me make their bread for the week. Watching them get excited over homemade food and hearing them say “it just tastes better” honestly means more to me than they probably even realize.

This week has been one of those weeks I know I’ll remember for a long time.

We spent nights at the Dickson County Fair riding rides that humbled me REAL quick because apparently my body no longer recovers like it used to 😂. We celebrated Skylar’s birthday yesterday, had pool days, stayed up too late playing Uno during family game night, laughed until our stomachs hurt, and just spent intentional time together while all the boys are here for the summer.

And truthfully… that’s why Sarah’s Southern Kitchen will always close on Sundays and why we’re taking this upcoming week off.

Because one day these boys will be grown. Summer nights will look different. The kitchen will be quieter. And I never want to look back and realize I was so busy working that I missed the memories happening right in front of me.

I love this bakery with my whole heart. But my family will always come first.

Thank y’all for supporting a small business that’s built around real life, real family, and real people behind the scenes. Your support allows me to create these memories while still doing something I genuinely love so much.

A few reminders:
🩵 We are closed this week for family time and rest
🩵 Orders reopen June 5th & 6th
🩵 The June menu drops tomorrow night

Now if y’all need me, I’ll probably be somewhere icing sore muscles from fair rides and losing another Uno game to these kids. 😂

I think some of y’all are finally starting to realize something very important around here…

We are not a cute cake bakery. 😂

If you ask me to stack three tiers, smooth buttercream, and make fondant flowers, I’m probably gonna start sweating immediately. But hand me a bag of flour and a sourdough starter? Now we’re speaking my love language.

I always joke that bakers usually fall into one of two categories: bread bakers or cake bakers. And over here at Sarah’s Southern Kitchen, we are VERY much the bread people. Give me sourdough, cinnamon bread, sandwich loaves, focaccia, biscuits, and all the cozy carbs. Leave the fancy cakes to the people with steadier hands and more patience than me. 🤣

That’s honestly one of the biggest reasons I’ve never really offered cakes. It’s just never been my lane and I’d rather stay really good at what I love than force something that doesn’t feel like “us.”

But for my husband’s birthday, me and the kids decided to switch things up a little and baked a chocolate chip sourdough loaf for the party… and y’all. It was GONE. We sliced it up, passed it around, and everybody kept coming back for another piece. Somewhere between dessert and bread basket territory, and honestly? That feels exactly on brand for this bakery. 😂

It got me thinking maybe we need to play around with more “dessert style” sourdough flavors around here because apparently y’all are just as obsessed as we are now.

So tell me 👀

What flavor would you want to see turned into a sourdough loaf? Peanut butter? Strawberry cheesecake? Cinnamon toast crunch? Something completely unhinged? I’m listening.

Nothing better than good food, good people, and supporting local. 🩵

Last night we took the kids out to see some of our favorite small businesses Mix Tape Grill (who we recently found out are basically our neighbors down the road 😂) and Sweet And Dirty Sips.

One thing about small business owners is we understand the long hours, the chaos, the passion, and the heart that goes into what we do.

So when we get the chance to support other local businesses, we absolutely will.

The food was amazing, the drinks were worth every sip, and the kids had a blast!

If y’all get the chance to check them out, do it.

Supporting local keeps our communities alive, and honestly, nobody does it better than small town businesses.🩵

Okay but can we just take a moment for these sourdough hamburger buns because LOOK at them. 😍

These were actually part of my personal batch for my family, and honestly… they turned out way too good not to share. Soft on the inside, golden on the outside, perfectly chewy from the sourdough, and sturdy enough to hold an actual loaded burger without falling apart halfway through dinner. That alone deserves a standing ovation. 😂

I’ve had so many people ask if these are staying around, and the answer is YES — these sourdough hamburger buns will officially be staying on board for the June menu. 👏

Made from scratch, long fermented, full of flavor, and just one more way to make comfort food feel a little more intentional around here. Trust me when I say once you make burgers with homemade sourdough buns, the store bought ones start tasting like disappointment.

Who needs a pack? 🍔

Got to spend some time at the Dickson County Fair last night and we saw our friends from Hometown Fizz 🩵

There’s just something special about seeing local businesses show up for the community and for each other.

Small towns, good people, fair food, and supporting your friends - hard to beat that combo honestly. ✨

🚨 PLEASE READ: Your baker is temporarily clocking out for some much-needed family time. 🩵

We will be CLOSED May 29th & May 30th and will not be accepting new orders for the first week of June pickup and delivery.

Please note: Any orders already booked and confirmed on my calendar will ABSOLUTELY still be honored and fulfilled as scheduled. 🩵 Those customers are fully taken care of, so no worries there at all!

👉Orders will reopen June 5th & 6th for pickup and delivery the following week.👈

As much as I love serving y’all every single week, sometimes life outside the bakery has to take priority for a moment. We have a very full schedule coming up with appointments, activities, out-of-town family visiting, and it’s also the kids’ first official full week with us for the summer.

On top of that, our oldest is preparing to leave for boot camp soon, and we really want to soak in these final moments together as a family before that big transition. ❤️

Truthfully… your baker could use a tiny breather too. 😂

BUT when orders reopen, y’all will also get access to the BRAND NEW monthly menu 👀 and I’m already so excited about some of the goodies coming your way.

And truly, THANK YOU. Thank you for continuing to support this little bakery, for understanding when I need to take a short pause, and for allowing me to balance business, family, and real life all at the same time. Y’all have helped turn this dream into something so special, and I never take that for granted.

Story time 🫶

Oatmeal cream pies were one of my FAVORITE snacks growing up. Like… the kind of snack you’d find hidden in my backpack, packed in lunches, or eaten at 10 PM standing in the kitchen for absolutely no reason. 😂

There was just something about that soft oatmeal cookie and fluffy cream filling combo that had a chokehold on my childhood.

Fast forward to now, and honestly? It means so much to me that I get to recreate those nostalgic comfort foods from scratch in a way that tastes EVEN BETTER while also being made with cleaner, higher quality ingredients. Real ingredients. No weird junk. No “mystery shelf life until 2087” situation. 😂

And apparently y’all are just as obsessed as I was because these things have absolutely TAKEN OFF lately.

For full transparency…
You guys have ordered SO many oatmeal cream pies recently that they officially broke into the Top 5 bestselling items at Sarah’s Southern Kitchen 👀👏

Which means…
One item got kicked out of the Top 5.

Now I need to know who y’all think got replaced 👇

Was it:
🤎 Original Sourdough
🤎 Protein Chocolate Chip Cookies
🤎 Blueberry Glazed Biscuits
🤎 Monster Balls

Drop your guesses below ⬇️

Also — yes, oatmeal cream pies ARE officially on the menu and they are $4 each 👏 Fresh baked, homemade, nostalgic perfection.

Whoever guesses correctly earns bragging rights and my eternal respect. 😂

Happy Birthday to my favorite human, my built-in handyman, my delivery helper, my “go to guy,” and the man who somehow puts up with me every single day… my husband, Skylar. 🩵

If you know us personally, then you already know Skylar is the backbone behind a whole lot more around here than people realize. Before I met him, one of my biggest stressors in life was vehicles. I’m not even kidding. If a check engine light came on, I was already mentally preparing for financial devastation and emotional damage. 😂

Then along came this man.

A Marine Corps veteran who served for 10 years, now serving as a federal police officer, and somehow still finds time to help me with bakery deliveries, menu ideas, fixing random things around the house, and basically keeping our lives running smoothly behind the scenes.

And let me tell y’all… it is SUCH a breath of fresh air knowing I never have to panic about every little thing anymore because my husband is always there to help figure it out before I even have time to spiral. 😂

I also truly do not know how this man tolerates living in what basically looks like a sourdough science lab half the time. There is flour everywhere, starter everywhere, dough proofing everywhere, random baked goods covering every counter space imaginable… and somehow he still supports all of it. Honestly, I think he mainly tolerates it because I keep him fat and happy. 😂 Fresh bread, cookies, cinnamon rolls, protein snacks… this man is basically a full-time bakery taste tester at this point.

But more than all of that, he is an incredible father to all three of his boys. Watching the way they look up to him and the love, patience, and protection he pours into them is one of my favorite things about him. He is also the best dog dad to Marco, our bakery supervisor, who is clearly living his best spoiled life thanks to Skylar. 😂

Skylar loves fast cars, fast bikes, and apparently blonde-haired, blue-eyed country women… which explains why he married me. Duh. 💁🏼‍♀️😂

In all seriousness though, he is genuinely one of the most amazing men I have ever known. He has made such a massive difference in my life in every possible way, and I know I’m not the only person who feels that way. He touches the lives of everybody around him through his kindness, loyalty, work ethic, humor, and the way he always shows up for the people he loves.

Thank you for being my safe place, my teammate, my biggest supporter, and the calm to my chaos. The bakery, our family, and honestly my sanity would not function the same without you.

Now everybody help me embarrass him a little and flood the comments with some birthday love for the real MVP behind Sarah’s Southern Kitchen.
