đ GRAND CHAMPIONS â Lost Lagoon Cookoff | El Campo, TX đ
No âmore to come tomorrowâ crap. đ If we cooked today, youâre gonna know today regardless!
This was our third time cooking Lost Lagoon, and with 65+ teams, we know damn well nothing is guaranteed. Weâve had some success here, and weâve had those days where we loaded everything back up without hearing our name.
Today was different.
đ 9th Chicken
đ 6th Ribs Chicken Fried BBQBlack Cherry and
đ· 8th Pork My pits are burning and
đ„© 8th Brisket
4 categories. 4 walks. And GRAND CHAMPIONS! đđ„
But as proud as I am of that trophy, there was something else about today that meant a lot to me.
After every single turn-in, I posted our actual box.
Not after awards.
Not after I knew it walked.
Not after I knew we won.
Right then and there.
Chicken went in â Fireball with Dad, then I showed yâall the chicken box.
Ribs went in â shared a shot with some friends who stopped by, then showed the rib box.
Pork went in â another one with Dad, then showed the pork box.
Brisket went in â shared one with our friends from Bits Are Burning and Two Sauce to Smoke, then showed everybody that brisket box.
Those were the boxes. Exactly what we turned in. Exactly what the judges saw.
Not because I have competition BBQ all figured out. Far from it!!
I did it because I believe in what I cook.
A lot of people arenât comfortable showing their boxes, especially before they know the results. And thatâs okay. But today I felt confident enough in what we were putting on that judging table to say:
This is us. This is what we cooked. Check it out.
To me, confidence isnât posting your boxes after you win.
Confidence is posting them before anybody â including you â knows the results.
And today, every one of those boxes you saw walked⊠and together they carried us to a Grand Championship.
Thatâs a pretty damn good feeling.
And the kids showed out too! â€ïžđ„
Clarisa â Smoking and Toasting #2 â took 5th in Junior Kids Q!
Cesar Jr â Smoking and Toasting #3 â took 7th!
Watching them get their names called and grow in this sport means just as much as any trophy we bring home.
Thank you to my family for every sacrifice, every mile, every long day, and for continuing to believe in what weâre doing. Days like today remind me just how blessed I am to cook, compete, spend time with the people I love, and do something I genuinely love doing.
A HUGE thank you to the sponsors who continue to support us and make all of this possible:
