When this pair of glider recliners came to me with the names of their original owners written on the bottom of the frames, I immediately felt a great responsibility to honor their past while transforming them for their future. Manufactured in November 1983 by La-Z-Boy Incorporated, these chairs have held remarkably strong. The solid wood frames and high-quality reclining mechanisms have provided countless hours of comfort while being part of decades of memories. With the exception of one arm board that broke free from its grip, I glued and nailed it back into place and added two vertical boards for extra support.
Redesigning furniture is one of my favorite things to do! When I asked clients D & D if they'd like to update the look and they said yes, I knew I could make these chairs look unique and sharp, especially with the fabric they selected. After we discussed removing the skirt, buttons, and piping, I got right to work unveiling what would become my blank canvas.
I realized that without a skirt, and knowing the undercarriage would be visible in the area they were going in their home, I needed to ensure that the frame was very neatly covered on each individual board so that no matter the view, they would be beautiful.
I LOVED covering these chairs!!! I am absolutely thrilled with how they turned out and I couldn't wait to show them to D & D!! I was relieved and overjoyed when they saw them and loved them too. π
As a last little detail, I left the wooden wings off so they could decide if they liked them better with or without. It turned out that they liked them without, so I'm very glad that I hadn't yet cut the holes for them!
These glider recliners are 43 years old. After removing all existing materials including every staple from the last two upholstery jobs, I replaced everything from the frame up. After tying the springs in place to prevent unwanted shifting, I added heavy-duty denim fabric and a layer of organic cotton before placing custom foam over the frame. Another layer of cotton and a full edge-to-edge wrap in batting before covering in a heavy-duty upholstery fabric means that these chairs will continue to provide many years of memories while offering exceptional comfort and support.
I was thrilled to be chosen to work on these very special recliners. β€οΈ If you have a piece of furniture that you love but that needs a makeover, reach out to me today and let's see if I can help you achieve what you hope to see!!
