The Amelie Michel Story
WELCOME TO AMELIE MICHEL, where you can purchase the fine Provencal, French and European textiles we have been selling in the U.S. since 2002. We got into this business when Amelia and I were visiting my grandmother's homestead in Southern France. Amelia noticed the eye-catching fine tablecloths being sold in the open-air markets of Provence. We brought a few back to the organic farm we ran in Connecticut, where Amelia used them to cover the farm stand tables. Immediately our customers wanted the French tablecloths as much as our vegetables, so the following winter we returned from France with several duffle bags-full.
QUALITY FABRICS. We quickly discovered the fabrics were practical as well as beautiful- they washed beautifully, required no ironing, and didn't stain. Despite a long messy season in the farm stand, and several open air summer dinners (during which at least a little wine was spilled), they continued to look as good as new. This, we found, was characteristic of these jacquard cotton-poly weaves made in old French mills. They are fabulous fabrics, in terms of beauty, quality, durability, and ease of care.
Our collection has grown considerably since the farm stand days. In addition to the original cotton-poly jacquards we now offer 100% cotton jacquards and a very large selection of the very popular coated cotton prints we refer to as “modern oil cloth.” Our product range has expanded as well, to include placemats, runners, napkins, pillows and custom products.
MADE WITH PRIDE AND INTEGRITY. We hand-select and import our fabrics directly from the old European mills. We’ve built strong relationships with our suppliers and visit them often. Our fabrics are sewn into tablecloths, napkins, placemats, and runners by a wonderful group of women in Fall River, MA. This gives us more control over quality and allows us to quickly make beautiful custom products. We cherish the relationships we have built with both our mills and our sewing machine operators.
