Gooood Friday morning Beautiful People!
Once again Frankfort & Bardstown Kentucky did not disappoint!!
We have had just the best visit & are already planning our spring trip because a little Kentucky history, beautiful scenery & some bourbon are good for the body & soul! โค๏ธ
Yesterday we spent the whole day at one of our favorite places in Kentucky, Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort!
Now, let me just say, even if you aren't a bourbon lover, this place is absolutely worth visiting! The property is GORGEOUS! The historic brick buildings, beautiful landscaping, little creeks, huge old trees, and all the charming fall decorations. My pictures just don't do it justice! ๐๐
And because I love a little history, here are some fun facts I learned about this amazing place! (We learned all this yesterday on our tour but this old brain didn't remember all of it so Google helped ๐)
Buffalo Trace is America's oldest continuously operating bourbon distillery, with more than 200 years of wh***ey-making history! The history of the property goes all the way back to 1775!
The distillery has grown to more than 400 acres! Yes, you read that right! And they have more than 600 employees in Frankfort! ๐คฏ
It even operated during Prohibition, when it was one of the few distilleries allowed to produce wh***ey for medicinal purposes! Imagine that! ๐
In 2013, Buffalo Trace was designated a National Historic Landmark!
We took the E.H. Taylor Tour, which focuses more on the history of the distillery than the actual bourbon-making process. And I LOVE history, so this was right up my alley!
Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. purchased the distillery in 1870 and is often called the Father of the Modern Bourbon Industry. He helped improve the quality and standards of bourbon, was quite the innovator, AND served as mayor of Frankfort for 16 years! A busy man! ๐ Our tour guide compared E.H. Taylor Jr.'s personality to Uncle Eddie from the Christmas Vacation movie, he was quite the character BUT made a damn good bourbon & had some excellent business ventures & died a wealthy man so ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Of course, we did more than just learn history!
We enjoyed a delicious cup of Buffalo Trace barrel-aged coffee. Yes, they have their own coffee, they added pumpkin spice to mine because it's Fall ya'll!
We shopped shopped shopped through their absolutely gorgeous gift shop.
We Enjoyed a tasty cocktail. Because, well, when in Kentucky! ๐
You'll see 3 cocktails in the picture, the 2 smaller ones ๐โโ๏ธ because I couldn't decide on just one ๐
We an AMAZING lunch at the John G. Carlisle Cafe, it's in a beautiful historic log-style building right on the property. The food was fantastic & the view while we ate ๐ค๐
And of course, we spent plenty of time just wandering around, taking pictures, and soaking up all that beautiful Kentucky scenery.
I think what I love most about Buffalo Trace is that it isn't just about bourbon. It's about history, beautiful old buildings, gorgeous grounds, and preserving a little piece of the past.
If you're ever in the Frankfort, Kentucky area, I highly recommend stopping by Buffalo Trace even if bourbon isn't your thing!
I have to give a shout out to J.Mattingly We had a little time to kill before our 3:30 tour so we went across the road to visit J. Mattingly 1845/Bourbon 30 Distillary, where you come as guest leave as family and boy is that true. The owner J aka Jeff was our pourer of his delicious small batch one & done bourbans, they were smooth & super tasty. . And the conversations
