Did you know that fragrance and what you smell - meaning, from a candle lit in a room, does far more than simply make a room smell pleasant, it can influence mood, memory, emotions, and even behavior. Who knew!
Science has discovered that scent is processed by the limbic system, the part of the brain connected to emotions and memories. This is why a fragrance can trigger a childhood memory, a favorite vacation, or a meaningful moment in your life.
It’s no surprise that different fragrance profiles can create different emotional responses such as:
• Citrus notes such as lemon, bergamot, and grapefruit are often associated with energy, focus, and positivity.
• Floral notes like lavender, rose, and orange blossom may promote relaxation, comfort, and a sense of well-being.
• Woodsy notes such as cedarwood, sandalwood, and vetiver are often linked to grounding, balance, and calm.
• Warm notes including vanilla, amber, and musk can evoke feelings of comfort, nostalgia, and relaxation.
The most memorable fragrances are often carefully balanced, combining bright top notes, expressive heart notes, and rich base notes to create an atmosphere that lingers long after the candle is extinguished.
My question to you is: What fragrance have you noticed that affects your mood—and what feeling does it create for you? Let me know in the comments what your favorites are.
