Today is Labor Day and the end of summer - here is a good one for you:

HOTEL DE HAAS - The Hotel De Haas was a historic, ornate downtown hotel in Fremont, Michigan, that operated from 1888 until its demolition in 1923.

History/Location: It stood at the corner of East Main Street and Division Avenue.Built: Constructed in 1888 by Jackie DeHaas.

Role: It served as a central social and business hub for traveling salesmen, farmers, and local leaders during Fremont's early growth as a timber and agricultural center.

Demolition: The building was torn down in 1923 to make way for new development, later replaced by a building that became known as the Kimbark Inn.

MITTENS have arrived! $25 Sweater and $35 Quilt.

Do you know about the Rose Garden Quilters of Fremont? It is a quilting group that donates its time and resources by gathering each week at the Fremont Christian Church to sew together in community and to donate quilts to organizations that distribute them to those in need. Each year, they make mittens out of used sweaters and quilts, which are sold at Hidden Treasures of Fremont! Proceeds go toward buying the batting used in the quilt. All other materials are mostly donated.

We are closed today, and I found a close-up photo of the theater. The Oz Theatre opened prior to 1914. It was renamed Fremont Theatre in the 1970’s and closed in 1988. I remember seeing the Star Wars movie there, which would have been in 1977.
Who else remembers what movies they watched at the theater?
