Juneteenth is American history. Black history is American history.

Juneteenth is also known as Emancipation Day and marks the day when Union soldiers arrived in Texas to announce the end of the Civil War and slavery. The Emancipation Proclamation had freed slaves two years earlier but there was minimal enforcement in Texas and many stayed enslaved.

Read Black history, Black poets, Black authors. If you’re local, there is a Juneteenth celebration this evening at the Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival in Gahanna and will have games, dance performances, spoken word, and musical performances!
