Today’s storms brought 60-70 mph wind gusts through our area, and unfortunately part of our neighbor’s tree came down onto my van and across the front of our garage, which also happens to be my workshop.

At this point, the tree is much too large for us to safely move ourselves, and because there was significant storm damage throughout the area, we don’t yet have a clear timeline for when professional help will be available.

Unfortunately, this means I currently can’t access my saws to cut wood or even leave to pick up additional materials while the cara and garage are blocked.

If you currently have an active order with me, I’ll be reaching out individually with updates if I expect any delays. I’m hoping disruption will be minimal, but I wanted to communicate early and ask for a little patience as we navigate this unexpected situation.

For all the people who pop into my comments to tell me I’ve ruined a sign by adding vinyl, ribbons, greenery, or “too much stuff”… this one’s for you. 😆

Just kidding! But I did want to create a pet-themed porch leaner with a cleaner, more minimalist look.

This design features a paw print in place of the “O” in “Home” and is perfect for pet lovers who prefer simple decor, easier storage, or don’t want to worry about protecting large bows and greenery from the weather.
And for those who like a little extra flair, the small bow embellishment is completely optional at checkout!

A quick look at some of the porch leaners completed over the last couple of weeks!

Each one started as raw wood and became a one-of-a-kind piece through lots of sanding, staining, painting, and a little creativity. It’s been a busy season, and I’m so grateful for every customer who supports handmade.

The workshop was a little quieter than usual last week thanks to the storms and a flooded basement, but these orders still made it out the door! I’ve been back at it today and making up for lost time.

We know many families in our area dealt with much more serious storm damage and extended power outages, and we’re keeping them in our thoughts.

Fingers crossed Wednesday’s weather is a little less exciting than last week’s! Anyone else have their plans completely derailed by the storms?

If you couldn’t make it to the fundraiser today and would still like a kit, please let me know! I have 3 more ready to go. They include the paints, brushes, jute and bow, welcome and flower wood cutouts, mason jar door hanger, and detailed instructions. You’ll need your own glue gun and/or hot glue! Half of the kit proceeds will still go to Little Lambs Preschool just like the event! Each kit is available for $21. 🩵

With so many new faces here recently, I thought it would be the perfect time to reintroduce myself and share a little more about The Kemp Nest. First, thank you for being here! Whether you've been following since the beginning or just found my page through a recent reel, I'm so grateful for your support.

I'm Emily, the maker behind The Kemp Nest. I started this business in 2023 after leaving my career as a special education teacher to stay home with our three kids and better navigate the unique challenges and opportunities that come with military life. What began as a creative outlet has grown into a business that allows me to combine my love of woodworking, crafting, and creating meaningful pieces for others.

I specialize in handmade wood signs, home décor, seasonal pieces, and personalized gifts. You can shop my products through both my website and Etsy shop. My website includes all of my currently available products, while Etsy is where I primarily feature my bestselling items.
