I’m so excited to introduce two new pieces on The Kemp Nest website: a matching "Hey Boo" door hanger and porch leaner! 🎃

The matching stenciled ghosts are definitely the stars of the show, but I think the painted wooden bars with polka dots are what really make these pieces pop. Plus, because I know not everyone decorates with traditional Halloween orange, the orange accent is completely customizable! Choose from several different color options to coordinate with your existing fall or Halloween decor.

🎉 10,000 FOLLOWERS! 🎉

I truly can’t believe I’m typing that! When I shared my little 6,000-follower introduction, I never imagined we’d be celebrating 10,000 so soon. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning, found me through a reel, or just recently joined the Kemp Nest crew, thank you so much!

For those who may be new here, I’m Emily, the maker behind The Kemp Nest. I started this business in 2023 after leaving my career as a special education teacher to stay home with our three kids and navigate the unique opportunities that come with military life.

What started as a creative outlet has grown into a small business where I get to combine my love of woodworking, crafting, and creating home décor with the opportunity to make something special for someone else. I make handmade wood signs, seasonal décor, personalized pieces, porch leaners, and plenty of other things that I’m constantly dreaming up in my workshop.

And while some of you are here to shop, I know many of you follow along because you enjoy seeing the process, too. I love sharing the sawdust, paint, stencils, mistakes, packaging, and all the little details that go into making something by hand. While I occasionally share tutorials and offer craft kits, I don't currently offer online crafting instruction. However, for my local followers, I do host craft parties and workshops for parties, businesses, churches, and community organizations! I bring the supplies, guidance, and creativity so you can enjoy making something unique together.

I’m also so thankful for all of you who share my posts, leave comments, send messages, recommend my shop to friends, and cheer me on from wherever you are. Every order and every interaction helps this little business continue to grow, and I never want to take that for granted.

A little peek at what’s been happening in the workshop this week!

These little mummies have been keeping me busy as I work through orders and bring each one to life (or… unlife? 😂).

From plain pieces of wood to finished mummies, there are quite a few steps that go into each one and I thought it would be fun to bring you along for part of the process!

Some of you might have been around long enough to remember these favorites of mine- handmade wooden soundwave signs. 🩵

While I haven't had the time needed to offer these to customers for a long while, I do have an update for those who have purchased them before.

The website that I used for creating and storing the QR codes has made some changes. The codes were deactivating if not used in 60 days and pop-up ads were added for most of the scans, making it so that you'd have to navigate skipping through ads to finally get to your audio.

I spent this summer re-converting all audio files into video files and have added them as private videos to YouTube. I have created new QR codes through a different website where they will (hopefully) not make any changes requiring them to be activated or scanned so consistently.

I have fixed all of the old QR codes that had deactivated so if you have a sign, your code should still work! However, if you are experiencing pop-up ad issues and would like a new QR code sticker for your sign that will take you to your audio on YouTube instead, please feel free to message me and I will get them printed and sent to you in the mail free of charge.

My products definitely reflect my own style, but I love when customers come to me with an idea that takes that style and mixes it with something that feels like them!

For example, one of the pieces I finished this week is my best-selling “Home Sweet Home” porch leaner, but instead of my usual colors, we changed up the paint colors to coordinate with their porch decor. Those little custom touches can be adapted to fit your own home, your colors, and your style. 🩵

Here are a few of the custom pieces that made their way to new homes this week. I can’t wait to see how they look in their new spaces!
