This is the VERY FIRST copper item I ever built in my life. Literally the first. It’s a traditional corn boiler, made with traditional seamwork using tools from the 1700-1800s. It’s tin lined. It took me DAYS with a master Tinsmith watching over my every move. It was the beginning of an old school apprenticeship that would last years. And here it is, ten years later, still usable, still reminding me of the beginning, how far I’ve come through so many challenges (which I will share soon!) and continued challenges…all I can be is thankful for this copper corn boiler and all that I’ve learned since I first measured it out to build.

Some gorgeous work done at the October Copper smithing workshop here at the copper shop in Wisconsin. I’m so lucky to have met such wonderful people through these workshops and I love watching the passion for the craft grow considering it is almost a lost art in America.

Had a wonderful October coppersmithing workshop! Some return attendees and some new, and great friendships and metal were forged! This is my absolute favorite part of being a coppersmith—sharing the love of building cookware and watching it grow! 💗

Total collaboration—someone built the bodies, a blacksmith made the handles, I built it (riveted, etc) and tinned it up! Voila!

Tea, anyone?
Never worked with copper mesh, and it was stretchy and springy and hard to keep in place, but I’m so happy to have completed this tea strainer! So cute!
