🏡 stillgroundworks.com Our work is inspired by natural materials, quiet landscapes, and the sense of belonging that comes from well-made design. We create personalized wooden signs, fine art prints, and keepsakes using a blend of careful craftsmanship and modern tools, with close attention to material, proportion, and how each piece will live in a space. Stillground Works is the name behind what we make. Stillground Made is where we share and sell that work on Etsy. Our art is offered as professionally printed fine art prints, ready for you to frame and make your own. Alongside art, we create handcrafted wood pieces designed to feel personal, lasting, and at home in everyday spaces. At Stillground Works, we believe good design should feel calm, approachable, and enduring — something that settles into a space rather than follows a trend.

Sometimes supporting small business looks like a cup of tea. 🤎

At one of the markets we've attended, Dan and Joie stopped by our Stillground Works booth. While we talked, we learned they own @ JD Silo Herb Farm & Gardens — and one of the things they sell is dried herbs.

I didn't buy any from the store.

But instead, I remembered them.

Why chamomile?

Well... I planted my own this year.

And apparently I got so busy trying to grow Stillground Works that I forgot I was also supposed to keep the chamomile growing. 😂

Let's say it didn't make it.

I sometimes make myself a cup of chamomile tea at night when the work is done, and I'm ready to slow things down for the day. So when I needed some, I remembered the small business owners we'd met at our booth and decided that's where I wanted to buy it.

And it got me thinking about something we sometimes forget about local markets.

A sale doesn't necessarily happen while someone is standing in front of your booth.

Sometimes someone sees what you make, remembers you, follows your page, visits your website — or comes back weeks later when they actually need what you sell.

Greg and I are usually the ones standing on the vendor side of the table, hoping someone will remember Stillground Works after they walk away.

This time, I was the person who remembered someone else's small business. 🤎

That's a pretty good reminder of why showing up, talking to people, and making those connections matters.

And I'm pretty happy that when my own chamomile didn't survive my small-business ambitions, I knew another small business I could support. 😂

As for growing my own again next year?

We'll see if Stillground Works lets me remember to water it.

Thinking Outside the Box 📦

When we started Stillground Works, there were plenty of expenses we expected.

Wood. Laser equipment. Packaging. Website fees. Shipping.

But then you discover the expenses you never even thought about.

Like... a cardboard box.

The box Greg is holding in this video cost us $12.

Twelve dollars.

For a cardboard box.

And that's before we've put a single thing inside it. 😂

Maybe we're cheap. Maybe we're practical. But Greg and I both looked at that and thought, There has GOT to be another way.

So we quite literally started thinking outside the box.

We started saving some of the larger cardboard boxes that things were shipped to us in. Instead of immediately breaking them down for recycling, we started looking at them differently.

Could we turn this cardboard into the exact boxes we need?

That's when Greg went to work.

He started measuring, drawing and designing box templates that we could cut on our laser. Before long, he came upstairs carrying a few different boxes he'd designed, cut, folded and assembled himself.

And they worked.

Then came the bigger challenge.

Could we make our own box for one of our large custom signs?

Back to the drawing board Greg went...

And that is probably one of the things nobody tells you about starting a small business.

Sometimes you're designing products.

Sometimes you're engraving cutting boards.

Sometimes you're working on a website or taking pictures.

And apparently sometimes you're standing in the workshop trying to figure out how to turn somebody else's shipping box into your shipping box. 😂

But every time we figure out one of these little things, we're learning how to make Stillground Works work a little better.

And if we can reuse something that would otherwise be thrown away while avoiding spending $12 on an empty cardboard box?

We'll call that a win.

Sometimes thinking outside the box means making the box yourself. 📦

Congratulations, Cody & Genevieve! 🤍

These two began a brand-new chapter together, and now we can finally share this custom cutting board created especially for them.

Personalized with their names, wedding year, and a simple botanical design, this is one of those pieces we hope becomes more than a keepsake from their wedding day.

We hope it finds its place in their home — brought out for family dinners, celebrations, quiet nights in, and all of the ordinary moments that eventually become some of the best memories.

Here's to a lifetime of love, laughter, adventures, and building a beautiful life together.

Congratulations, Cody & Genevieve! 🥂

Suppose every little business eventually needs a sign. 🤎

And when your business happens to own a laser...

Apparently, you make your own. 😂

This is our new Stillground Works sign, and seeing it finished feels a little more meaningful than I expected.

When Greg and I started Stillground Works, it was mostly ideas.

Ideas for things we wanted to make.
Ideas for what the name should be.
Ideas for a logo.
Ideas for a website.
Ideas about what this little business might someday become.

Slowly, those ideas have started turning into something real.

We have a website.

We've filled tables at markets with things we've made.

We've created pieces that have become wedding gifts, anniversary gifts, Christmas ornaments and parts of people's homes.

We've met customers who have come back to see us again.

And now...

We have a sign. 😂

Greg and I made this one ourselves, right here at Stillground Works — because apparently buying a business sign would have been entirely too easy for us.

It's just another small step.

But when you're building something from the ground up, those small steps can feel pretty darn good. 🤎

Congratulations, Savanna & Ryan! 🤍

Yesterday, these two officially started their greatest adventure yet.

When we created this custom cutting board for Savanna & Ryan, we knew that a love of adventure was part of their story. So it seems fitting that this piece, made especially for the beginning of their marriage, will now head home with them for everything that comes next.

The big adventures. The unexpected ones. The places they'll discover. And all of those wonderfully ordinary days at home in between.

We hope this board becomes a small reminder of where this chapter began and follows them through many, many years of memories together.

Here's to a lifetime of love, laughter, and always finding another adventure around the corner.

Congratulations, Savanna & Ryan! 🥂

It looks like it’s on fire. 🔥

Don't worry — it's supposed to do that. 😂

This is one of our custom wooden spoons being engraved, and I love watching the little flames dance across the wood as the laser burns the design into the surface.

I've watched this machine engrave more pieces than I could count, and somehow this part still doesn't get old.

The laser moves back and forth, the flames dance along behind it, and little by little the design starts to appear.

Pretty cool to watch, isn't it? 🔥

It’s the little things. 🤎

When we make one of our personalized cutting boards, the personalization doesn’t stop when Greg finishes the engraving.

We personalize the care insert that goes with it, too.

Every cutting board includes instructions for how to care for it, but instead of putting the same generic card into every package, we add the names of the people the board was made for.

Is it necessary? Probably not.

Would a regular printed care card do the same job? Absolutely.

But that’s not really the point.

When someone opens a package from Stillground Works, we don’t want it to feel like a product was pulled off a shelf.

We want it to feel like someone made this especially for you.

Because someone did. 🤎

The design matters.
The engraving matters.
The wood and the finish matter.

But we think the little things matter, too.

Sometimes those small finishing touches are what make a gift feel that much more personal.

Love watching a vision come together.

One of my besties lost her special person, Grandpa Harry, last month. “God is great. B**r is good. People are crazy.” was one of Grandpa Harry’s sayings, so we wanted to turn those words into something she could place at his grave.

I created the artwork, Greg 3D printed a case for it, we engraved and color-filled the acrylic , and added a solar light so it can softly light up at night.

We’re working on the ground stake now, and then this little idea will officially be complete.

Sometimes the things we make aren't really about the thing at all. They're about the person, the memories, and creating something that means something to the people left behind.

This one is for Grandpa Harry. ❤️
