Whether my designs are more geometric or organic, my inspiration comes from nature and the amazing way light affects the various colors of glass. I love vibrant color combinations as well as the endless shades of blues that remind me of fabulous ocean scenes that I've experienced through my scuba diving trips. Iβve always been interested in the arts (music, dance, painting, pottery, photography, g
raphic design) but handmade fused art glass provides a challenge for me to explore the creative art process along with an additional dimension of science that lends an unpredictability to each experience due to the reactions of adjacent colors from to their chemical composition, the surface tension of glass which makes it act the way it does, and numerous other factors that may vary with each firing. My pieces are made from combinations of sheets of glass, rods of glass, or glass powders. The elements for each piece are cut and then assembled by hand. Most pieces are fired to almost 1500 degrees, then fired at least a second time to create its final shape. Some pieces that are constructed through the layering of multiple elements require several firings. (As you may have wondered, my kiln really is purple, my favorite color!)
My work continues to evolve as I explore various techniques. Every step of each project has been interesting and enlightening. Please feel free to get in touch with me at [email protected] for work available for purchase or to discuss any custom projects or gifts that youβd like to have created.
