This has been my afternoon in the woods. I didn't think drawing the end of a downed tree would take long. I guess since I am in the process of learning to do realistic drawings, it slows the process down. I have determined what I need to make drawing the end of a downed tree more orderly:

1. Step by step instructions
2. Sketch paper with grid lines

I was able to identify the type of tree as a sweet gum. I took a couple of steps forward, determined how I can improve the process, and will continue foward.

This is why we practice. I am planning to do my sketching next Thursday while the forest music is playing. 👍

The most solemn part of my trip to Mount Vernon was visiting President Washington's tomb. Since becoming a member of DAR, II have been making it a point to learn more about the Revolutionary War. During and following the war, a handful of men were choosing the words that would outline the two documents that would guide our country through the next 250 years.

George Washington had the unique experience of spending time on the battlefield and giving his input for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

I have these four pictures with General Washington on a horse. I want to do a wood burning of General Washington on a horse in front of the mansion.

It would have been nice to get a picture of the side of the mansion that faces the Potomac River. There is still active construction on that side. Also, there is a pretty steep slope down to the river. I don't think he would have ridden a horse back there very often.

Which horse do you think would be best?

Taking advantage of the nice weather. We haven't kept up with the landscaping with so many other things going on. Hopefully we'll get better at it. Travis has been doing good keeping up with the grass.
